As a lark, I looked into those. Man, those things are expensive. In all seriousness, I choose not to wear a robe, but there is a gavel.
I never once in my years of covering state and federal courts saw a judge bang a gavel. Ever. I did see a federal bankruptcy judge tap his pen on his desk to restore order at a particularly raucous hearing (think Perry Mason) I remember some years back a Florida judge set off a stink when he showed up in court in a red robe. I don't know if he went back to the traditional black. Now, back to our regular programming...
Fair warning to everyone: Be careful what you post, because from now on, everything you say can and will be used against you in the court of Wordforge!
Good news: effective April 6 the state of Idaho is opening vaccinations to everyone 16+. (Possible) Bad news: I'm wondering if it's because we have a high percentage of "vaccine hestitants" and outright anti-vaxxers in this state and we may have hard time ever reaching the numbers we need to get to that ever elusive herd immunity. Good news: my second shot is scheduled for April 3.
Yes Georgia is doing the 16+ thing too in a week or so. I'm going to encourage my son to get one. The Walgreens that has the vaccine (not all have it of course) is literally five minutes from his house.
a Friday shot was my original plan so I wouldn't miss work from side effects, but I jumped on the first appointment my wife & I could get - she's high risk because of diabetes - which was on a Monday. On the bright side Monday's suck anyway, so they might as well suck even more I guess.
don't do what I did and catch a fucking head cold the day you get your shot. Ya try to do the right thing by getting vaccinated at first opportunity, and end up sick. Spoiler alert life isn't fair.
How about some good news? One of our students got sick with Covid-19 in January and at one point was in an induced coma for 30 days, almost died twice (that he knows of). We were terribly worried until we heard from him in late February. Tonight he came back for his first class since getting sick. He seems to be doing well and made it through the class with no problem.
Just got my first shot. No hammers. No high powered drills or air guns. Overall, less intense than getting blood drawn. It was nothing. I don’t know what you all were so worried about.
who are "you all"? Was anybody on wordforge worried about getting the shot? That said some of us question how the pandemic response was handled by different states, but if I remember nobody questioned the validity or science behind getting the vaccination.
