Are they only on a level with the terrorists who tried to overthrow the government on Jan 6. However here is an interesting column on PETA's activities and the FBI's reaction to them (or overaction, considering how negligent the feds have been in pursuing domestic terrorism that actually kills people).

Jaboe's list of terrorist acts includes some that uninformed readers might consider minor. Among these is what he calls "'tree spiking' (insertion of metal or ceramic spikes in trees in an effort to damage saws)." Anyone familiar with chainsaws knows, however, that the saw is not the only target threatened: the sawyer can also be seriously injured. What has come to be the favorite act of sabotage by eco-terrorists, however, is arson, a dangerous crime that no reasonable person would condone. Terrorism activists can even download free from the web a scary 37-page document, Setting Fires With Electrical Timers - An Earth Liberation Front Guide. During 2001, twenty major fires were set. Just one of them at the University of Washington's Horticultural Center caused $5.6 million in damage.

We have come to think of this kind of activity as occurring largely in the American West, but last year over a quarter of these eco-terrorist acts were committed in the Northeast with three considered "major" by the perpetrators having taken place in New York State.

Of even greater concern in these threatening times than the millions of dollars of damage done is the fact that a very substantial fraction of FBI resources has had to be committed to counterterrorism related to these acts of domestic violence. Jaboe tells us that a remarkable 1669 agents -- a sixth of the FBI's total forces! -- have had to be assigned to this defense, this at a time when our country is seriously threatened by outside forces.

2002. Bush and co were looking for scapegoats. PETA gave 42grand to defend a guy (not one of their own) accused of arson on an animal lab. No one was hurt (dunno about the animals, that would be ironic).

    Not convincing.

The post wasn't really meant to convince anyone who wasn't already convinced. These days PETA is more of a bad joke than anything else. They actually went on the record demanding that an Idaho community change the name of "Chicken Dinner Road" because....reasons. Anyway, I'm not interested in praising or burying PETA these days. There's plenty of stuff on the Interwebs about PETA if anyone wants to look it up. I'm more than happy to let everyone make their own judgement.

Generally they're more wacky and eyeroll-inducing than actually dangerous. Though in part that's because nobody listens to them.

They once declared that the American Kennel Club was equivalent to the KKK and demonstrated at a dog show wearing Klan robes, which is absurdly insensitive at best.

I can get on board with the idea that we shouldn't test nonessential things like cosmetics on animals, but their founder once said that if animal testing led to a cure for AIDS, they'd oppose it.

They've repeatedly tried to convince people that drinking milk causes autism. I think most people can agree that spreading medical disinformation is harmful.

There is an argument that PETA, by deliberately being provocateurs, are really just playing a role in the larger ecosystem -- getting attention with their antics, which then allows more reasonable-sounding voices to step in and go "well, not that, but..." and actually get listened to. Hard to say if that's their intent or not, although their founded did once tell a reporter that they intentionally avoid lobbying on legislation that has a chance of passing because they know their name being attached would harm it.

Basically PETA's good at showing their asses and pushing their agenda like a militant vegan. Their basic message is fine.
With that said, Ima still enjoy a good burger from time to time

ALF (Animal Liberation Front) and ELF (Environmental Liberation Front), however... and I'm sure PETA's caught some flak from ALF's shenanigans.

Context matters: for those who didn't read the link, he paid off Chrissie Hynde for using her song as his theme without her permission. She was willing to overlook it because her father was a Limbaugh fan, but that changed in 1997 when Limbaugh told the press that he liked playing “My City Was Gone” because “it was [written by] an environmentalist, animal-rights wacko and was an anti-conservative song.” He added: “It is anti-development, anti-capitalist, and here I am going to take a liberal song and make fun of them at the same time.”

His comment led to Hynde enforcing her rights, but even then she offered a middle ground: No action would result from his breach of licensing if he forwarded all due royalties to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals campaign.

She explained: “In light of Rush Limbaugh's vocal support of PETA's campaign against the Environmental Protection Agency's foolish plan to test some 3,000 chemicals on animals, I have decided to allow him to keep my song 'My City Was Gone' as his signature tune and to donate all proceeds from the deal to further PETA's efforts in that regard.” The amount was reported to be $100,000 at the time.

Actually Hynde didn't have an issue with Rush using the song because her father liked Rush. The publisher is who had the problem. They worked out the PETA deal to satisfy the publisher.

    Talk about your shitty whataboutism.

I would actually bet some money you are just free on bail awaiting your trial on being in the capitol insurrection. The fucking proud boys are probably going to send you a giant poster of tucker carlson in a furkini and a rock hammer for your prison escape attempt.
