Yeah. I grew up in a family that was decidedly pro gay rights in the 90s and it was a shock to me as I got older to find myself a unique unicorn among other black folks in that regard. I legit had a friend who worried I might turn gay just by sharing a frigging house with a gay chick.. And while I'm skeptical that it was only black and Latino populations that push Prop 8 over the top in 2008 or that it was a particularly high priority issue, too many of us are unfortunately all too willing to use our own discrimination as a reason to hurt other who have done nothing wrong.

I've since learned to bring up the queer pioneers of the Prideovement in such arguments, most of whom were black and/or brown and then ask "why do you want to white wash black history?" I have yet to get anyone to keep arguing that queerness is a white man's perversion after that. :clyde:

I would say that the issue was more about financial and cultural priorities than anything else.

If in the 50s and 60s it were feasible to have cable and streaming and all the technological means to narrowcast that we do now, there would still be homogenous broadcasts, the vision of a white middle-class America was one that TV writers came from and generally wanted to project, that TV execs came from and wanted to project and that companies seeking to place their products came from and wanted to project.

what part of IN MY PERSONAL OPINION do you not understand? Does anyone/everyone on wordforge present evidence every time they voice their own opinion?
DAMMIT! I guess that was "what about ism" or "both sides ism" but the question still stands.
Your personal opinion might be that you think dogs are better than cats. I'm sure you don't have evidence to back that up, because it is your personal opinion based on your own personal experiences. Somebody asked me what I thought about liberals and I answered. I'm not the smart one in the room here, so if I can figure that out I'm sure that you can.

Interesting list. Let's take it one at a time. I think it describes conservatives extremely well.

    pessimistic
Have you paid any attention to what you have been posting about Biden, Harris, and the chances of the current administration to achieve anything worthwhile? This pretty well sums up your whole approach.

    bitter
Ditto. No need to even repeat it all.

    stubborn
To what extent are you or any other conservatives willing to change your outlook? And you dare call others "stubborn"? Oh, the irony!

    delusional
Just about every political meme you post shows you aren't even close to living in reality. You don't pay any attention to reality. You live in your own delusions, and think they are a valid basis for making fun of "liberals". Conservatives accusing liberals of being delusional is probably the most blatant example of either extreme hypocrisy or extreme irony one can find in the modern world.

    holier-than-thou
This is one of the primary characteristics of conservatives: "Liberals hate babies, liberals are communists, liberals are whatever other bad things we can think of. We are the only good ones around." Another case where you, of all people, have no room whatsoever for accusing others of something that describes you and other conservatives to a "t".

    authoritarian
Almost the very definition of Trumpian "conservatives". "Send in the fedearal troops", "Lock 'em up", "We're standing by with our guns, waiting for orders", and so on and so forth, ad nauseum.

    narrow minded
Liberals are much more open to allowing people to hold to, express, and live by other values than they themselves hold. It's almost the very definition of liberalism. It is conservatives who want to fit everyone into their mold.

    hypocritical
The very fact that you post a list such as this and pretend it characterizes liberals, when it is such a perfect description of conservatives, shows who the real hypocrites are.

    judgmental
All the things you post about AOC, Harris, and other strong-minded women, especially those who are not WASPs, shows just how judgmental you are. And you dare accuse others of being judgmental?

    humorless
This shows that you simply aren't paying attention. Look around the board, and see who are the most humorless. All this accusation means is that you don't like it when liberals make fun of conservatives.

    thin-skinned
Donald Trump was the only national leader in the Western world I have ever known who simply couldn't let anything negative about him pass. He had to be right in there on Twitter, at 2 o'clock in the morning, accusing those who said bad things about him. Any reporter in a WH press conference who asked a question that shed light on his or his administration's shortcomings was immediately and publicly humiliated, called names, and bullied. Compare that to AOC, Sanders, Biden, and other liberals that you hate. They let the vast majority of the downright nasty things that are said about them slide. When you and others accuse Biden of not being a good public speaker, for example, when has he ever come back and said, "I had to overcome a huge stuttering problem in order to have a successful career in public life"? If others hadn't said it in his defense, neither you nor I ever would have known it. He just ignores it and goes on with making his case about what he believes. And you dare to claim that it's liberals who are think-skinned? You simply aren't paying any attention to facts in the real world.

Conclusion: you thought it would be cute to take the list of the most blatant characteristics of conservatives and apply it to liberals. That tactic is about like Trump accusing others of broadcasting "fake news": accuse others of doing what you do, and hope that somehow it will deflect attention from the fact that you yourself do it all the time. But far from showing up the shortcomings of liberals (there are plenty of them; I could have posted a much better list myself), you simply show that you live in your own little bubble, without paying any attention to reality.

@Asyncritus just made the list I didn't have time for.

But I'll add that "it's just my opinion" is not some magic talisman that means nobody is allowed to ask you what facts or logic inform it. I'll also point out that "dogs are better than cats" is a stupid analogy. One, because dog owners don't have the ability to force dog ownership onto cat people, and two, because preferring dogs to cats doesn't cause anybody to go bankrupt due to medical bills, freeze to death because conservative ideology dictated that profits were more important than people, or lose the right to marry who they wish.

"Liberals are humorless," by the way, tends to be code for "I liked it back when all the jokes were about 'punching down' and I got to shit on women and minorities, secure in the knowledge that if something was sacred to me, the dominant culture would cancel anyone who went against it. Now that the tables are starting to turn, I'm mad."

Agreed. Conservatism wants the status quo. Is the status quo bad? Would we have to do anything drastic to fix it? Then it's a shame we can't do anything to fix it, that's just the way the world is.

It's saddening to watch the world change and the good things pass away. It's easy to dwell on that and become bitter. So yes, it can characterize conservatism. You just shouldn't label half a state as such out loud if you want their electoral votes One can also be liberal and become bitter or downright acidic (see: Frank Conniff's Twitter) because one keeps seeing people suffer because the establishment is too conservative to make the changes that one sees need to be made.

Can't we all just be stubborn in our own ways? :pwease:

Agreed about oldfella. There are definitely delusions on the left that maybe you just don't see trumpeted in the news or among the bulk of "liberals" you spend time on. (one we can all agree on: PETA)

Can't we all be holier-than-thou? :pwease:

    Agreed.

True "liberalism" versus actual real-world liberals, most of whom, for better and worse, exclude some (many) viewpoints from their "this is okay" pile. If oldfella finds that exclusion repeatedly directed his way on a variety of subjects then he would be reasonable to say he finds liberals narrow-minded in his experience.

You aren't wrong to take oldfella to task, but these are cases of "whoever gets caught casting the first stone loses". Some of us just don't bother to object when e.g. someone accuses conservatives of being unfunny.

Well, you see, oldfella can't tell his favorite jokes for fear someone will get offended. And all these times someone gets roasted by the mainstream media for saying something that was maybe poorly said but hey there's a grain of truth in there? Liberals who can't take criticism of their favorite groups.

PETA isn't a great comparison to the nutjobs on the right, because there aren't a whole bunch of Democratic congresspeople bending over backwards to please them and they are largely irrelevant in government.

Nevertheless, they are an indication that "liberals" aren't right about everything. That's part of why I wrote that I could write a much better list of the real shortcomings of liberals than Oldfella did. Contrary to the opinions of those who think that anyone who isn't a Trump bootlicker is a "liberal", I do not fully identify with the Democrats, I do not always vote for Democratic candidates, and I don't adhere to all the policies of what generally characterizes "liberalism". There is plenty to criticize on the left in American politics.

    But Oldfella's list isn't it.

That is about what I expected from you. Your attitude is why I have to think gun possession should be severely restricted, and we need constant investigation to find racist practices that are harming society. Because you are not going to spot shit if it was right under your nose. Either that, or you are like a dog and you like eating shit.

Whatever, there just comes a point where you cannot change a person and just need to enforce the rules properly. America has got to get to that enforce the rules properly thing.

and as I said "the list is largely incomplete" or did you miss that part? Let me sum it up for you - I didn't pour a lot of time into the list, it was just a general summation.
Did you read that? I have to check since you missed part of what I said the first time. So while you wrote a much better list, you just can't read worth a shit.
