When did involuntary civil commitment go away? They still do it in N.C.

Blame your buddy Ronald Reagan for dismantling the mental health institutions for costing too much money

That said, mental health's come a long way in 40 years so most people can live outside of institutions, with medication and a few home visits as needed. Even schizophrenia isn't the mental death sentence it once was to a lotta folks.

We just need people to take mental health seriously and acknowledge that there are real issues and can be treated. and then people need access to mental health care.

The only reason the is a"mental health crisis" is because people refuse to acknowledge the previous statement.

I am taking it seriously. I'll warehouse all the crazies before I'll see them used as props to erode the freedoms of innocent people.

Yes, historically, humans had little understanding of mental illness and did horrific, awful, things to people suffering from mental illness. - and often used it as a scapegoat to "get rid" of an unwanted or embarrassing family member.

However, we do know more today than even 20 years ago. It's time to stop (not you personally) hiding mental illness and start actually, scientifically, treating mental illness.

True story - my maternal great grandmother was put in a mental institution because she didn't want to get married and did not want to have children.

Obviously just the ones who are a proven danger to anyone, or are unable to care for themselves.

Nobody's serving and protecting anyone on a bicycle. One crazy woman with a sign can take down dozens!

To be fair, it was also the ACLU. One of the few things those folks ever agreed with Reagan on. But yes, unintended consequences -though considering how bad the prision industrial system has gotten in the last 40 years, I wonder just how bad it might have gotten if we were also stockpiling the psychologically challenged.

It must be a sad world in which "serve and protect" means being able to beat the fuck out one crazy woman with a sign.

If I can't trust you to own a gun, I'm NOT trusting you to walk the streets as a free man.

    If only.

Plenty of people out there I wouldn't trust with a gun. I wish I could get them off the streets as free men.

LOl. You just refuse to accept that women are in danger every single day. We deal with it. We mostly don't cry about it. But, it happens. It's true. Just because you don't behave that way, doesn't mean other men don't - and they sure as hell are not going to tell you they are.

I suppose if you talked to Brock Turner, you'd take his side and say "eh, she had it coming".

Some are, some aren't, and some conflate being offended with being in danger, supplying them with an excuse to brand every male who doesn't read verbatim from the modern feminist script an "incel."

Who are you, a man who has never been in danger of rape, to tell a woman that she isn't in danger? You are making assumptions based on a male perspective.

I'm not saying some women don't exploit their vulnerability, they absolutely do. But, those are the only women in danger that men want to deal with. Maybe not you specifically, but men in general.

If you want to bitch about "white privilege" and say you aren't privileged, then quit bitching when I do the same about something you are sensitive about.

Fuck incels and Fuck men who do women. They are the problem. Not me.

A thinking being who recognizes "in danger" as an objectively verifiable status that does not depend on anyone's emotional state. "This makes me feel unsafe" has become grievance culture bullshit bingo for "this offends me, but nobody is obligated to give a fuck about my opinions, so now I'll try guilting them with silly hyperbole."

I am explicitly NOT saying that. I was very clear on the difference.
