Years ago, despite going to the VA for most issues, I still went to a private sector gynecologist. Each year at my annual check up, I had to fill out a card so that in three months, the scheduling staff could call me to set up my next appoint - 9 months out. Private dentists appointments are 6 months out.

If only you mattered there wouldn't be any health services.

In both cases there is a safety net put in place which is only possible because of the scale of the demand.

The private one does far more to limit your freedoms.

Then you should only be pissed about the idea of portion sizes and soda bans if they have personally applied to you.

    Have they?

If not, wind your neck in.

All it would have taken is me living a few (ok, more than a few) hours away in the same country. Couple that with coastal elitist piss streaks who trade in terms like "flyover country" to describe where I do live, people who would love to abolish the electoral college, and it's not at all hard to envision this being imposed on me without a meaningful chance of opposing it. For my own "good." :sniper: :commie:

Exactly. The ban was ONLY in New York and lasted less than 3 years IIRC. As far as I'm aware, it didn't ban refills, so anyone who absolutely needed to drink a full 32 oz of soda at one meal could fill up their 16 oz soda cup twice

So, has UA said "the veil has been lifted from my mind! I do live in a society! I'm free! I'm free of the evil! :happytears:" yet?
Or does one of us have to shrink down inside his brain with a pair of hedge clippers?

Sorry but NY having briefly limited soft drinks once doesn't have a hope of offsetting the massive sweeping benefits of universal healthcare.

That's not arrogance it's a sense of proportion.

Not a necessary condition of any position I take. In fact it is one I explicitly rule out.

It is the group overriding the individual, and I will not fucking abide it.

By your logic millions could die if their living impinges on the choices of an individual.

    That's dictatorship.

Exactly how the fuck would that work?

Take care not to incorporate any actively genocidal activities on the part of the individual into your strawman, which is explicitly not a part of any position I would ever defend.

I wouldn't know, but how does that apply to me? Would you be falsely equating the acts of some authoritarian government functionary with the insistence that the individual's will to do as he pleases so long as he does not harm or endanger anyone else?

I would say you should know better, but I'm not convinced.

To say that you would either a) have absolutely no goddamn idea who I am or what I'm about, or b) pretend you have no idea because you think it makes you look clever.
