Whole bunch of season 2 news nuggets. Just a couple of them I picked out- -The dreaded SNW/LD crossover will be mostly live-action with Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid being the main crossover actors. -Kirk is going to re-meet Pike, since last time was an erased timeline. Lots more in the link. https://trekmovie.com/2022/08/03/st...-kirk-spock-bonding-and-season-2-on-steroids/
I'm thinking that the crossover will happen in the holodeck. We'll have Boimler and Mariner wanting to experience or visit Pike on the holodeck. It will start with the two on the Ceritos being animated, and once they enter the holodeck it will transition to the live action characters. This will the avoid the Roger Rabbit mix of animated and live action, and still allow for a mix of animated and live action scenes with Boimler and Mariner.
In the UK the penultimate episode has dropped, and can't say I'm fond of the Gorn being morphed into some Tuvixed concepts of the Magog from Andromeda and the Xenomorphs from Alien. Just use another new species, it's not like Trek hasn't got a couple of TOS era species with a rather different outlook on genocide to explain away them not being mentioned later in the timeline. I mean, you've got future plot lines right there! Entertaining ep, and a bit salty they got rid of Hemmer - will heavily made up characters in sci-fi be the new black person in horror movies? - but yeah, the Gorn changes took me out of it somewhat. Although I look forward to a DISCO episode called Gorn Resurrection where La'an finds herself cloned in the future...
Pike is supposed to come aboard the Cerritos as a cartoon. How does he leave the holodeck? Did mobile emitters get mass produced? How come book characters aren't running around all over the ship? Nope, I'm going with time travel, and a coverup to preserve the timeline.
Carol Kane joins the cast. https://trekmovie.com/2022/09/08/st...-the-cast-as-new-engineer-plus-season-2-clip/
Depends on how long SNW runs. They could kill off the Chief Engineer and have a new guest Engineer every season, until they get to God's Perfect Engineer, Montgomery Scott.
Anson Mount says the Lower Decks crossover isn't even the craziest episode they did this season! https://trekmovie.com/2023/01/15/an...ode-in-star-trek-strange-new-worlds-season-2/
Ruh roh, SNW is getting a they/them genderqueer in season 2. I wonder who's going to suddenly hate everything about the series now? https://trekcentral.net/exclusive-new-faces-join-star-trek-strange-new-worlds/?amp=1
I'm more concerned about character overload. It's only been one season, and there's still lots to explore with the existing characters without introducing new ones. Unless I've miscounted, there are at least four new characters being introduced.
I mean....it's not a great look that Starfleet doesn't let in non-binaries until the 32nd century. Like how that "no female captains" line in TOS makes us cringe now. If they can retcon that shit, do it.
I thought the general consensus was that Janice Lester was literally insane and her insistence that women couldn't be captains was a delusional justification for her own personal failings? Like a mediocre 20th century white dude claiming there's a grand conspiracy holding back white dudes just because he can't get anywhere in life personally.
Seems unlikely to be a regular, implication is that they serve with Kirk so presumably would be a glorified extra in scenes related to or onboard The Farragut.
Or maybe they always existed, but weren't entitled shits from the 2020s who bring the episode to a halt to focus pointless amounts of attention on them.
