Let me ask you a question, and maybe it won't trouble you too much intellectually. What does Ukraine have to gain by blowing up the Nordstream pipeline?

 

How could that possibly benefit Ukraine, in any way?

 

It lessened Russian influence over Europe.

By possibly denying energy to Europe, the very place they seek modern weapons from? There are better ways to get at Russia than blowing up a small piece of Nordstream.

Have you considered that perhaps some people supporting the war have no love for Ukraine but see the value of helping them fight Putin today so hopefully NATO doesn't have to directly fight Putin tomorrow?

If some dickhead starts trying to kill you and I step in to try and help you defend yourself how exactly am I supporting there being a fight?

 

Usually if someone steps in to defend someone else in a fight, they break up the fight and everyone goes home or they talk the other guy down, they don't hand them a knife, a gun, brass knuckles and some armor to keep fighting, especially when the other guy has a tank that can destroy the whole neighborhood and has said publicly he's willing to use it if necessary.

 

You know the best way to prevent NATO from having to fight Putin tomorrow? Stop the fighting and negotiate a peace.

 

If the other guy looks scary should stand aside and let him kill you, got it.

And? We have nukes too. I'd ask if you'd ever read up on the history of the Soviet Nuclear Weapons program, but we already know the answer to that. You know the "Doomsday Bunker" just outside of DC? Where the government was supposed to go if the Soviets started launching nukes? The Soviets had plans for an even more sophisticated one. Totally state-of-the-art, and would be so automated that even if there wasn't a single survivor in the Soviet Union, it could still launch nukes from silos. They realized that there'd be absolutely no point to such a thing, so they quit working on it. Because if everybody on your side is dead (or dying), what's it matter if you fire off more nukes at the other side? So what if you manage to kill them all? You can't occupy their country, because you don't exist, and if you don't exist, then it doesn't matter if somebody occupies your country, because you ain't using it.

If Putin tries to order a nuclear launch, one of his generals will kill him before that can happen. Right now, the generals are probably hoping that Putin kacks it in the very near future, if they're not already plotting to off him as it is. Because, if you assume that there's a peace settlement and everybody stops shooting at one another, what do you think Putin's going to do next? He's going to start executing military officials for fucking up the war. So, you can bet they don't want peace with Putin still in power.

If somehow, Putin dies, or winds up in The Hague, then the generals will be able to toss a bunch of low-level folks at the ICC for things like war crimes, get some moderate punishments for failing to ensure that their forces didn't commit war crimes, and retire to their nice dacha somewhere. He orders a nuke, and all that goes away. Because they will have the rest of the planet headed for their asses. Even if they somehow manage to avoid an all-out nuclear war at that point, the rest of the planet isn't going to stop until the Russian government is reduced to rubble and the military leaders have been hanged. They know this. Even if someone shoots Putin while the nuke is still in the air, and nobody sends a nuke back, they're still fucked.

But I don't see why you're worried. According to you, the space aliens are here and helping us! Which means, they won't let Putin nuke us, either. Right? You're the one who says we've got captured alien technology and that aliens are helping us. What better way to force them to show their hand than by sending up a bunch of nukes? Seriously, if they're here, and/or we've got their gear, then dealing with nukes is not only easy, but something that they'd feel compelled to do, since, if they didn't, we could very well go extinct.

 

I'm gonna show up at your house tomorrow with a gun and rape your pretty little asshole, and if the cops show up to help you're going to demand they only help negotiate a deal where I cum deep inside your guts in exchange for a possible reach around, right?
