Remember that quote from President Obama when debating Mittens? Yeah me too. Unfortunately he was wrong to scoff at the idea that Russia being the biggest geopolitical threat because not only are things ramping up in Ukraine, (which I tried to find the thread) but Russia is also helping Kazakhstan clamp down on protesters. The question is, will Biden take a firm stance against Putin on will he fold? I personally believe we need to help Ukraine however we can, but with no boots on the ground. As for Kazakhstan, don't know, I feel for those people though.

Do you mean that we don't have boots on the ground, or that we shouldn't have boots on the ground?

One guys assessment of world politics in 2008 isn't necessarily accurate twelve years later?

That was 2012. But yeah, it was arguably premature while Medvedev was in power. And I haven’t seen much else from Romney indicating he’s particularly prescient on future foreign policy issues.

Well, now that Putin has Tucker Carlson and a large chunk of the Republican party lining up to suck his cock, this could get pretty messy.

That article doesn't really provide any proof that Tucker is taking money from the Kremlin, but his statement about NATO inching us closer to a nuclear war is very problematic. We're obviously not going to do that and we need NATO so Tucker's in the wrong for sure.

member when the russians built a giant complex under the Hawkins mall to wake up the mind flayer? @Federal Farmer does, and it's been almost 40 years that we have left Hopper over in a russian gulag.

That seems to have a lot more realism than any crazy bullshit FF is spouting. I hope 11's powers have come back so she can destroy russia with her mind.

The video @Ancalagon posted is pretty damning, I'll grant you that. Meanwhile other pundits on Fox are saying Biden's too weak on Russia. If I were in charge of Fox, I'd tell him to put a stop to it or his the road.

Perhaps - just perhaps NATO should not be expanding right up to the Russian border.

Seems to me that countries on the Russian border are the ones with the most need to be part of a mutual defense pact.

The situation is as usual a lot more complex than a comic-book caricature of one side being the "aggressors" and the other side not. The outlines of an agreement to resolve the situation are quite apparent, if the political will were there to take the necessary steps. These were already agreed by France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine in 2015 and endorsed unanimously by the UN Security Council.

    They include:
    • Withdrawal of the invitation for Ukraine to join NATO.
    • Disarmament of the separatist Russia-oriented region (Donbas)
    • Withdrawal of Russian forces (volunteers)
    • Demilitarization
    • Restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty, in which both sides have been heavily interfering.
    • Full autonomy for the Donbas in the context of the decentralization of power in Ukraine as a whole.
What we've had since are a load of dick measuring contests about the timing and sequencing of these moves. But if rationality is to prevail and if the aim is to avoid conflict rather than to ensure US or NATO dominance, these (or something like them) are the only way out.
