Kristol is in the same boat as a lot of Never Trumpers. The work they did pushing Darth Cheney's "Unitary Executive" theory, their support for the Iraq adventure and the "you're either with us or against narrative" that led to Freedom Fries and the Patriot Act helped make Trump possible. Now that their beloved Republican party has gone completely off the rails blaming Trump is a convenient way for them to whitewash their own culpibility.

Agreed. Strange bedfellows and all that. I just don't want the historical context of the situation get lost and don't want to let them off the hook for the role the played. Forgive? Yeah we all make mistakes. Forget? Different matter. :eyebrow:

The Arbery trial might be a decent road map. The prosecutor in that case was simply brilliant. Too bad she wasn't there to prosecute the OJ Simpson murder case. :spock:

And here we run into the problem with any prosecution of a figure like Trump: It's not a level playing field where pre-existing opinions are concerned.

There are plenty of people who despise him, but would be perfectly capable of saying "yeah, he's a piece of shit, but strictly speaking he didn't violate the law in this particular case." But his cultists will just back him to the hilt no matter what.

Well it took a few years, but I think we can all ultimately agree that the consequences of the process playing out is going to be good for the US. :bergman:

You may think that but if a crime has been committed here that's related to threatening your entire democracy and electoral process then it's ultimately good for your country if it's sorted out

You however being as partisan as you are have trouble seeing that, hence the butthurt

It's not the DNC's fault if it happens to be good for America.

Which it is, and has been. As seen by multiple examples of periods of debt reduction and increased liberty.

I don’t think our entire democracy is or was under threat, I those are scare tactics used by the Democrats.

It's being alleged that he tried to overturn the legitimate results of a federal election. How is that not your entire democracy under threat?

Christ, you'd be saying that shit even if they had gotten Mike Pence, and he was dangling from a rope with a purple face while Trump screamed "swing, you muthafuckaaaa!!!!".

Democrats claimed that there had been efforts by Russians and others to sway the election in Trump's favor. But as far as is public, no public-figure Democrats or their attorneys, no one working directly on Hilary Clinton's behalf ever committed crimes to back up the notion that Trump or did anything to claim the final outcome of the elections should be reversed.

Hilary Clinton, like all presidential losers before Trump, conceded after it was apparent she had lost.

Then proceeded to go on and say the election was stolen, even after conceding.
Here’s Jaimie Raskin trying to overturn the 2016 election.

    So first:

This isn't "Democrats trying to overturn the election." This is Jaimie Raskin objecting to Florida's electoral votes as not properly certified, and as the clip itself shows, he didn't have a senator to co-sign the objection to those limited votes. And admittedly, there were apparently others Democrats who raised technical objections to other electoral votes as insufficiently certified. This was political posturing that was in no way intended to say that Donald Trump was not the legitimate victor, nor could it feasibly have resulted in Hilary Clinton being declared the victor if successful.

That is far different from claiming that the fundamental election was rigged, that the electoral votes that were being questioned did not or should not ultimately be counted, trying to present a fake slate of electors, pressuring state election officials to "find" votes, pressuring state legislatures to claim voter fraud or various other things that the Republicans did in 2020.

But that's not what Fox/Breitbart/TheBlaze told FF he was supposed to believe about that clip.
