We've got threads for Marvel movies, DC movies, Marvel TV, DC TV, but what about the rest? Well, this is for them. To start it off... There's going to be a series based on "Sex Criminals", based on a comic by Image. The basic plot is, a couple meet, and hook up, and discover that when they have sex, they share the joint superpower of freezing time for a couple hours. They then proceed to use this for robberies. Hence the joke of the title. Sounds interesting. Hope it goes to premium cable so they can go full-force with the sex scenes, or what's the point?
Sex Criminals is awesome. I believe volume 2 comes out next month. Speaking of sexy comics, I also really liked Ultra: Seven Days.
Sex Criminals, the comic, is utterly amazing. Even better than Fraction's Hawkeye run, which is probably the best in the last few years' mainstream comics. I can't begin to think what they'll have to do to it to make it TV. Sex Criminals does not work without OUTRAGEOUS amounts of seeming obscenity. Well, well beyond anything I've ever seen on HBO or the like.
Valiant comics is bringing us a third (if you count Marvel, Fox, and Sony as one) cinematic universe. http://www.vulture.com/2015/03/valiant-comics-to-launch-cinematic-universe.html
They're rebooting Electra-Woman and Dyna Girl. http://spinoff.comicbookresources.c...ok-at-the-electra-woman-and-dyna-girl-reboot/ The original was kind of a female version of Adam West Batman, but Electra-Woman was a super duper genius, and her gadgets were 60's Trek level advanced. Looks like they're going a bit deconstructionist parody with this one.
Crossing my fingers for "Nemesis", happening. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemesis_(Icon_Comics)#Film Basic premise, imagine if someone like the Joker ended up with Batman's physique, intelligence, and money.
They already did. There was a pilot in the 2001 for an updated show with Markie Post... It's predictably awful, but Post was still pretty hot then.
"Jupiter's Legacy", will be a film. (No, it has nothing to do with "Jupiter Ascending") Wiki on the comic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter's_Legacy Valiant's first movie will be "Bloodshot". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloodshot_(comics) "Officer Downe", will be a film. http://www.comicvine.com/officer-downe/4005-84121/ Stan Lee is producing a show called "Lucky Man", about a guy with a magic luck amulet. (This counts as off-brand, because it's not Marvel, it's Lee's "Pow!", entertainment") "Lazarus", will be a TV series. http://comics.wikia.com/wiki/Lazarus Will Smith and Noomi Rapace will star in "Brilliance", about supers, but based on a novel series rather than a comic. "Crash Ryan", will be a film. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crash_Ryan "Chrononauts", will be a film. The comic hasn't even fully come out yet. Jack Huston is going to be The Crow in the reboot of "The Crow".
Dammit, there was one that uses superhero tropes without using the classic style of costumed heroics, based on a novel, and at one time had Ridley Scott attached, but I cannot find it. Can't remember the title, or anything. Torn the internet apart for it. Saw it on Dark Horizons, but Googling the hell out them turns up nothing. They didn't pitch it as a superhero film, and the novel isn't classified under that genre, so those terms don't help.
Sony has signed a 5 picture deal with Valiant. It'll be two of "Bloodshot", two of "Harbinger", and then a crossover called "Harbinger Wars". http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/36645/valiant-sony-plan-five-picture-deal
"Steelheart", based on a novel, and about a world where people get superpowers "Heroes", style, but all of them become villains, and conquer the world, and a resistance movement of un-powered humans has to find their weaknesses, and overthrow them.
The director of the Power Rangers fan-film is doing a dark take on superheroes akin to "Watchmen", called "Gods And Secrets". http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/38092/superheroes-go-dark-in-gods-and-secrets
Looks like there might be a movie of "Nemesis". http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/millar-mcnivens-nemesis-film-adaptation-moves-studios
Another off-brand superhero. This time, from director Adam Mckay. "Irredeemable", based on a Boom Studios comic, about a superhero at Superman power levels who suddenly snaps, and wreaks murderous mayhem. Other weaker superheroes have to stop him with help from a villain. http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/42813/mckay-helms-superhero-tale-irredeemable Where "Nemesis", answers "what if Batman went insane?", this one is "what if Superman went insane?".
Catching this one up again..... Sacha Baron Cohen is going to be Mandrake The Magician. A series is being made of George R. R. Martin's "Wildcards". A CG animated series "Vampire Hunter D: Resurrection", is in development. Finally, some development on the Toxic Avenger remake!! http://www.darkhorizons.com/sausage-party-helmer-to-direct-toxic-avenger/
