I know that Summerteeth and myself used to play this game. We've been trying to arrange a one on one match for a while now too. That lead me to believe that maybe some of you have played it. About 5 years ago I'd play it online, and I played The Conquerors expansion when it came out. I haven't had practice at it in years but I'd like to extend a challenge to anyone on wordforge, if you have the game, let's see who's better.
Oh yeah, I love that game. And Age of Mythology too, got both of them. Haven't yet got AOE III though, it's been hard to find the time to play through these games, I get so absorbed and play them for hours on end! In the new year I'll hopefully be getting some more time to myself, buy AOE III and might give the online multi-player a go. I'm not that great though, my poor fledgling empires quickly get overrun and destroyed in any difficulty setting over 'normal'. I'm definitely NOT from the British school of empire building.
You and Summerteeth can go versus against me 2 on 1. If you want to get better just google Age of Conquerors Flush. I bought Age of Empires III but I haven't really had any time to play it. I regret buying it now, I should have just stuck to the old classic.
I need to get through Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War and Rome: Total War before I can even think about cracking the seal on my copy of AOE III
I love AoK. Have played Conquerers but actually prefer the original one (well, not sure - I just don't know all the new gimmicks all that well even though the stuff with the mill is nice ). Problem: You can't play decent multiplayer games online (200) (upload's too weak) and I fucking can't stand scenarios (a.k.a. "build a couple soldiers and rush" a.k.a. "I can play a fps if that's what I want"). Don't know whether I'd have the time (and then I haven't played in quite some time either (used to play it on a pretty much weekly basis a couple years ago) AND I'm on GMT+1 AND I don't have it with me here. Anyway...I'd probably be in for some fun (I do find 1on1 rather boring though ).
I had AOM, I wasn't a fan. For my money AOK:TC is the best it got. To be fair I haven't given AOEIII a real chance yet.
I love AOM. Practically the same game engine as AOE but with mythological creatures! Even though there is only one campaign, it's huge and the story is great. I'd say it's camapaign is mroe interesting than those found in AOE II.
So, are we going to get something going or what? I'm in after the 14th or so. Preferably when I'm in uni town rather than at home (3 Mbit/40 KB down/up trumps 768/128 IMHO). Still don't know how well it'd work with that...
I have Age of Empires and the Conquerers, but lately I haven't had much time or interest in playing the video games. It'd be neat to try playing the game against real people, though.
You should update your version of the game to 1.0c and then 1.0e. The link I'm leaving will explain the changes and why they were made, the 1.0e is just to prevent cheating in online play, so you may not need that one. http://www.microsoft.com/games/conquerors/downloads.asp The best site for online matches and the 1.0e update.
I don't play scenarios, it's all player vs player skirmishes. Playing against a person is better then playing the computer because you never know what they're going to do and they have the ablility to think and adapt.
My days of RTS were forged by Warcraft II, Command and Conquer, and Dark Reign. *sigh* Them were the days.... I may have AoK, around but I'll have to do some serious digging.
Okay, in that case, I'm in. Let's set up a date. Today's my last day of university, then there's an exam on Wednesday and after that I'm good. A weekday would be preferable for myself.
I'm up for a game -- be warned though, i'll probably be defeated easily Weekends are best for me, of after 6pm GMT.
If well play AoK, yes. Not if the faggots want to play Conquerers (which I'd have to get first too). Anyway, people who are interested: - evenflow - Tex - Summerteeth - Camren - Prufrock - elvital Do you people want three on three or all against all?
I'm better on my own. AoE never became second nature to me like other games did, and I never played viscious multiplayer games like I did with the earlier games. So my learning curve will have to be pretty quick.
Damn! I'm in the same boat as Elvital. I don't have the Conqueror's version, just the original AOE II. I let my cousin borrow the game and he returns it minus the Conqueror's CD! If I'm going to take part in this it will have to be playing the original Age of Empires II. Sorry.
Okay I've just re-installed AOE II, but I gots some questions: 1) How do i check which version of the game I've got? 2) How do I play the game without a CD? I used to have a crack which let me play without using the CD, but can't seem to find it. My CD's on its last legs so I'd rather spare it any further wear and tear. Edit: Never mind, sorted it out. So, when is the best time for everybody to take part in this? I can spare a couple of hours during the evenings, after 9 PM UK time. That's assuming of course you guys want to play the orignal AOE II (Age of Kings), and not the expansion version. But since you need the original to play the expansion, you shouldn't have any excuses for not wanting to play the original.
I have AOK still, so I can give lessons in that to you guys. I'll need to upgrade my version, I'm sure you can find it just by googling it, I'll see what I can figure out and post a link. I'll also figure out my schedule in a little bit and set a good time. We don't all have to play at once, 1v1's will be much easier to coordinate anyway.
I've never gone multiplayer with AoE, so we may need to fire one up tomorrow night or so just to get me goin.
Saturday evening is probably the best time for me this week, can't guarantee I'd be free on other days.
