Removing Scratches From Car Paint

I have a couple of nicks in my paint that I need to fix. I have the typical do-it-yourselfer concern: I may f*ck it up.

I'm looking for a "How To", names of specific products, and/or reassuring claims that it's easy to do a good job.

Hit me, smarty!

 

I just get out the can of olive drab and paint over 'em.

 

Not all of us have matte-finish vehicles .

 

It depends on the size of the damage. Very small nicks and scratches can be covered by those wax pencil things.

I would think very carefully before attempting to repair significant paint damage myself. That's a job that needs a cautious and considered approach.

 

Describe nicks: fleck of paint, pinhead/dime size, any metal damage, bare metal?

I checked today, and I realize have another mark about 6 inches long and 0.5" wide where I had a minor accident. No metal is visble, but the scratches are pretty conspicuous. I'm certainly not going to try to fix this myself.

My plan is to go to a couple of places, get quotes on the damage mentioned above, then see if they'll throw in repairs to the tiny nicks.
