A green, green lawn is a source of pride in the neighborhood. It makes me feel respected, like the rest of the white people in suburbia. So how do I get my lawn REALLY green? Cut it often? Water it often? Fling a few pieces of shit at it every once in awhile? Others have gotten their lawn really green, yet I have yet to achieve this. Discuss!
Depends on what variety of grass you have to begin with. They all look and grow differently. WEb will give you a lot of info.
Don't cut it too short. Let it grow for a couple of weeks, and never use the lower settings on your lawnmower. Keeping it too short just makes it weaker. A couple of weeks of growth and it'll gain strength. Use fertilizer when you know it's gonna rain - not storm - just a good, strong rain. Dunno what else my parents did to get the grass to be green...
It's time for lawn pictures! I think you can tell where the neighbor's shorter, less-green grass starts!
Cut you lawn to an inch and a half, then turn off the sprinklers. Use time normally spent cutting grass for masturbation.
A professional company fucked up my neighbor's lawn - took him months to get it to be green because the "professionals" kept cutting it too short, too often. More than one company messed up their lawn.
As TKO said, don't cut it too short, especially during the summertime when it gets hotter, or you'll cook the grass. Be sure to water it, and only at night or in the morning, watering it during the day will fry it.
The lawn care companies around here are very good. When it's time to sell my home (if I get enough lead-time) I'll get it done prior to putting it on the market.
I've been so concerned with chemical runoff from pesticides and fertilizers mine is suffering this year. Too bad Diazanon was banned and I ran out, before that it did exceptionally well without the critters eating it. Don't cut it too short, and don't wait too long between cuttings. If it gets too tall it'll have a shading effect on the baseline of the grass leaving it thinner, atr least for me. My back yard I usually don't cut as much for the cats to play in so that's how I know about it getting too tall. Mid calf to knee deep in patches around the back now as a matter of fact.
Yea, I always wince when I see the city medians and properties sprinklers running at two in the afternoon. You'd think they'd know it makes for steamed grass ala carte.
Oh I forgot to add, if you let it get too long, you have to rake up the clippings, or else it'll cover up the grass underneath and kill it.
If I learned one thing from Bayonet training, it's that blood makes the grass grow! Of course they're probably not allowed to chant that stuff anymore in Basic Training.
Spike the ground. Get a garden fork and push it about 1-2 inch into the lawn all over it. That will help aerate the soil. Then add a strong mixture of lawn food and water it in well. In about 2 weeks your lawn should look much better
Thats not always true. If you live in a very hot place or its a day with very sharp sunshine its best only to water in the evening. But remember the best and best looked after grass to be found is on golf courses and football pitches, and they often water during the middle of the day if needed. If you are going to do it then just make sure you water a LOT, give it a real soaking. I would agree that watering a lawn thats mowed short on a sunny day is a bad idea, it will probably just end up brown
