It's not that it's unfair or wrong.

It's that I've never met a woman who chose to hyphenate who wasn't a ballbusting, shrewish battleaxe who didn't know how to use a razor or make-up.

Ah, more wild extrapolations from anecdotal evidence, then!

Well, what's Wordforge for anyway? :diacanu:

Let me expand, I may not buy their clothes with my money I make from a job because I don't have a job that pays me(tech. the money my husband makes is my money too and don't forget the money I save us because I do stay home that doesn't go to daycare). What I mean is, I shop for the food and the clothes. I am the one who cooks the food, I am the one who helps them put on their clothes. I am also the one who cleans their clothes. I am the one who cleans up after them. I am the one that helps with homework, I am the one who makes sure there are things to do so they don't get bored. I am also the one who takes care of them when they are sick or wake up in the middle of the night because of a bad drea. So maybe I am not the one who puts the cold hard cash on the table, but I do a lot.

Most of that a maid could do, and they wouldn't talk back. Or if they did talk back, it wouldn't matter, since it would be in Spanish.

If you gonna reduce what I do to that then, a man just provides the money, well a government agancy could do that.

Nothing you claimed to be doing made you equivalent in importance to your husband, nor did it justify you claiming ownership of the money he earns.

If you have money in hand, it's because he allows it.

Live and learn kid, live and learn. Find me one of these hyphenated last names that isn't a femanazi and I will agree that you might have a point.

What good would that do? Based on observations in this thread, you assume a woman is a feminazi based on her hyphenated name; that is prejudice and illogical, feeble reasoning.

It's based on my past experiences with such women, that's hardly illogical.

Again with the anecdotes = reasonable basis.

I'd say your powers of observation are possibly feeble, as well.

Prejudice means to pre-judge, and when experience informs you nine out of nine times something is so, then to go with that prejudice is rational.

The mom in this article sounds like a controlling bitch. If she really wants their daughter to like her just as equally, she should spend more time with her.

Or maybe hire a nanny and let the dad start working again. That way the daughter will be completely alienated from both of them equally. ;)

In my observation, women with hyphenated or unchanged names are no more likely to be feminazis than women who took their husbands' names or divorced or unmarried women.

But this is not what I am basing my opinion on. I base it on the observation that if someone does or doesn't want to change his or her name at marriage, it's their business and to judge them on their decision based on their gender does not make any sense.

Hmm, looks like Jen McClure-Metz chose not to raise her daughter because she instead had the wonderful opportunity to be a post-production supervisor on a show called "Cool Women".

I imagine I deal with a lot more women than you on a daily basis, it comes with the territory in my job. You're a student right? How many hyphenated last named women have you really had to deal with yet?

When you choose to make a political statement out of your marriage, that pretty much describes the kind of petty feminazi you are. IMHO!

I'm not a student any more.

I actually know more women who didn't change their names when they married than hyphenators. I don't really know anyone, male or female, who's really all that bitchy.

Feminazi loons have perpetuated the idea that marriage equals the woman abandoning her individual identity and becoming a thrall to her husband. Which is arguably how it should be, but it all seems to stem from that fave feminazi canard from a while back that marriage is tantamount to rape.

    edit: to Prufrock
So based on that statement you know about 4 people. Take away your mom and dad and that leaves 2.

I don't think they're all really trying to make a political statement. Maybe they just like their last names.
I know I wouldn't want to change my last name! It's awesome!

Ah, but if you really believe it's about equality, then you will have to change your name to John Prufrock-Dworkin when you get married.
