First of all, he's a RINO, and we all know that.

Secondly, even if he was a bewetting, whiney liberal, it wouldn't erase what he has achieved. It would make me wonder why he would want to be identify with those who are prone to latch on to the government tit, though.

I'm damn proud of my state government. There was no rioting, no panicking, and nobody destroyed any football stadiums. There was ONE incident of looting, perpetrated by illegal immigrants, and nobody tried to shoot the police.

Also, people started evacuating ON THEIR OWN. We had 500,000 people on the move the first day, because they weren't waiting for the government to come save them. BTW, the numbers evacuated in total are 10x what happened for Katrina.

While some of what happened with Katrina can be blamed on the state and federal government.....some the decisions made individually by people at that time are simply mind-boggling.

To be fair, the majority of those evacuated in this fires were middle-class folks who actually *had* cars to get away ASAP. Not so much for Katrina victims, and especially New Orleans, which was one of the poorest cities per capital as of 2005. That, and hurricanes in that region of the world are as common as earthquakes in California and blizzards in New York, which probably accounts for much apathy by those who could have gotten out but chose not to (And even I'm not that naive to think there weren't any cases of that).

I'm sure I just started a wank that'll go on for at least 100 posts by stating that, but it doesn't make it any less true.

This doesn't explain why he got elected and other Hollywood stars that were also running at the same time (and were probably, by your standards, better actors/actresses) didn't get elected.

First off, yes, Arnold worked hard to build muscles, but not as hard as the Anabolic Steroids he took to build himself up — and continued to take during his acting career.

So let's not hold him up as some paragon of virtue.

That having been said, California knows how to fight these fires and seemed to do a pretty good job with more than the usual number of fires this year. Should they continue to invest in more gear and more personnel? Maybe — but every government agency argues it needs more resources.

I've met the guy. Arnold is not "dim". Not by a long shot. Don't mistake a heavy accent for stupidity...he's anything BUT. He's a brilliant speechmaker and can play a crowd like a violin, and he's done a lot to turn this state around, standing up to and earning the respect of a heavily-Democratic legislature.

It takes brains to know how to work with an opposing party in these divisive days. Gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em, as the song says.

As for being a Republican, there's no way they'd have nominated him had he run for governor in a regular race. He's definitely a RINO, as Sokar said. The Repubs here only like him now because he's the first big winner to come along for their party since Reagan.

If he could run for President, he'd be far and away leading the pack, IMHO.
