Exclusive: The X-Files 2 Starts Shooting Dec. 10
    Source: Diva October 29, 2007

After years of David Duchovny talking about the sequel, and almost 10 years after the first feature, 20th Century is finally ready to start production on The X-Files 2 with the actor in place to reprise his role of Special Agent Fox Mulder. Gillian Anderson is also expected to be back on board to play Special Agent Dana Scully.

Shooting is scheduled to begin on December 10 in Vancouver under the direction of series creator Chris Carter. Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the script.

The studio is referring to the film in casting breakdowns as "Done One."

The popular series ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002. Rob Bowman directed the first feature, which hit theaters on June 19, 1998.

X-Files was the second most overrated thing of the 90's right after Alanis Morrisette.

Naw, The X-Files was great in the beginning when it was some of the best horror/sci-fi produced on television. Around the fourth season it started turning to crap though.

They should never have tried to "tie everything together". That's when it became a whole muddled mess. We KNOW there was NO PLAN in the beginning, that they were just telling weird, cool stories, but then they tried to act as if there was some "grand plan" in place the whole time...

I really enjoyed the show, don't get me wrong, but the bending over back asswards in trying to explain stuff was utterly ridiculous.

I'm sure I'll go see it, but will anyone else? That's the real question. 10 years after the first movie (which I thought was very good, albeit frustrating), and almost 6 years after the series ended dismally, does anyone still care? And will anyone care about a movie that doesn't attempt to pick up the mangled pieces of the alien conspiracy mytharc?

Duchovney has done more over the years than Gillian Anderson, but he's never reached those "movie star" heights that he obviously thought were waiting for him towards the end of the show's run.

Wow. This excites me almost as much as the thought of having all my internal organs pulled out of my body through my asshole with a rusty fork.

The first movie sucked huge amounts of crap and I had no desire to even watch the TV show after it, let alone see a sequel TEN YEARS LATER.

I mean lets face it, when the movie came out they'd run out of stuff to do on the show. I was hoping (and this was hinted at in the marketing) that they'd end the series and move on to a film series. Or at least the movie would be the end of the series--it was going to "answer all the questions" from the series.

And to be fair, it looked promising. In the season finale They burned down Mulder's office. :calli: So imagine my disappointment that that was barely covered in the movie, and apart from using a couple of the plot points from the series, the movie didn't really answer ANYTHING from the series. It didn't really even seem tied into the series to me. At best, it was a big-budget, two-hour "X-Files" episode. With bees. :dayton:

I was hoping they'd finally do the alien invasion - that type of thing would require a big budget picture, and would be a great payoff for the series.

But sadly, evidentally they are simply doing an extended stand-alone episode. Not nearly as excited about that.

They're kid would be 5 or 6 now. So they'll probably have him be a precocious young adventurer like that brat in The Mummy II.

No, Scully gave their kid away.

All the conspiracy guys wanted little William, so Scully takes him and gives him to some family to raise in the boondocks. Good going there Dana, why don't you just take out your gun and shoot them dead there, it would be quicker.

Yeah......but.....would a full-scale "Independence Day" style alien invasion have really fit the tone of the show?

We never really saw the supposed colonizing aliens - what they looked like, etc. We saw the savage "just hatched" alien (which was a blatant rip-off of the chest-bursting "Alien"), and we saw that eventually it morphed into a traditional looking "grey" alien.

The most we saw was the "alien rebels", who could shape shift and for some unknown reason felt it necessary to mutilate their faces to keep the black oil/virus from getting into their mouths and noses.

X-files 2, you say? Did Gillian anderson finally realize she won't ever get any other work?

I think it's really more that the studios have begun to forget what an asshole David Duchovney became in the end of that show.

Actually, Gillian Andersen is doing better than Duchovny at this point - though I doubt either one of them are poor.

Nine full seasons of a network TV drama, plus a movie, plus whatever residuals she gets from the endless reruns in syndication and the marketing....yeah, Gillian Anderson isn't hurting for money. Same for Duchovney, though he was only on the show for about 7.5 seasons.

While I'd agree that Tea 10 years back was a grand thang... any woman who wouldn't be willing to pull up stakes when you can afford to live in Van or the relatively short commute from the island (in contrast to LA traffic), well, the bitch must be some kind of robot or one of those allergic to everything, should be bred out of the gene pool types. I mean jeez, you could live on a mountain 5 miles from anyone, and still be less than an hour drive.

    Oooh...

OK. So I was never a HUUGE "X-Files" fan, and clearly the show waay overstayed its welcome. And I have absolutely no desire to see a second "X-Files" movie (indeed, if I could, I'd like the two hours back that was wasted on the first one).

And "Stargate: SG1" should've ended, like, three years ago.

But as God is my witness, if they managed to do an "X-Files"/"SG1" crossover movie, I would have a spontaneous orgasm right here. :j:

I seem to remember reading in an interview that she was semi-retired (and also batshit crazy).
