Hey Vandy, when I was in Texas I ran into a few people that were amazed at the way I spoke. I was in computer sales. I would go into a store and people would look over to see who was talking. "Wow, you hear that black guy?!"
Huh? A white person that is amazed that a black dude can speak well. Shit, even better than them and its a black problem?? Please. Finish the joke.
* brudder1967 passes out box of tissues for those Alabamians who are upset that Vandy and Rosencratz don't want to live there. * brudder1967 watches in amusement that noone is upset.
Because the black folks didn't say stuff like...'Where'd you learn to talk like that, boy?' One time on a sales call, I show up and some of the white yokels hanging around that hardware store actually said.."Hey lookie, a black guy with a briefcase." and then a bunch of low chuckles from the crowd.
Is it racist to say that Canadians are shitty tippers? Now, I agree that the woman was an idiot, but considering you admit that most of the blacks are poor and uneducated is it any surprise most are bad tippers? You didn't mean any black people from SHC? Oh c'mon that was hilarious! What?!?! Dirt roads are the shit! It's all good!
I don't see that as racism. If every black dude you've ever met sounds exactly the same, it's only natural to start expecting it. If anything, it's willful, insular ignorance.
Funny, seems like Shep was doin' an awful lot of cryin' about it earlier. So far we've got FIVE full pages of cryin' about it.
What part of Texas was shocked to see a black? Because I know shit-loads of blacks from Texas - mostly Dallas, Houston, and along the Louisiana border. But hey, where I grew up there were zero blacks, so when one was spotted (during the tourist season) they would draw some attention.
See a black that speaks well. An educated black with good language skills. i once told this Texas dude I was from England. D'UR!
Oh, I see. In that respect, you would stand out around here too. I think a lot of blacks around here know how speak correctly, but choose not to. Same with the hillbillies IMO.
Well I speak a number of different ways. A little bit of spanish when uptown. West Indian accent when in some parts of Brooklyn. Straight up when on the job. Since I'm a little older I use less slang on the street. No drawl. Ever.
I work there, yeah. Only been to Mobile once, it wasn't bad. I actually live about 20 miles from Huntsville, so I sleep in relative quiet. Don't live on a dirt road, though.
Yeah, yeah. Predictable. I might take offense if I hadn't know dozens of well educated and well spoken black people in my life in the south. Yeah, I have known plenty of inarticulate and crude ones too. But I'm willing to bet there are inarticulate and crude borthas and sistas in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, California, and Illinois too. So what have we proved?
Huh?! Dude, do you actually read the posts? What it boils down to is...why is a white person surprised that a black person is well spoken and educated? I pretty much know that they were just fucking with me. Where is the part that you might take offense at?
Personal experience with Southerners both on and off the internet. They can't tell by sight of course, but after I've told those people I'm from California, they froth at the mouth and I've been called that literally on more than a few occasions.
They were probably amazed that a black guy could sound so gay, that being the immediate response to a yankee accent.
Funny. There are some of us who talk the same regardless of where we are or whom we are with. It's called being yourself. Are you that insecure that you feel you have to put on a false accent depending on your surroundings?
What makes you think I'm taking offense. And, btw, if they were just fucking with you then they weren't surprised....which is it?
