Just got home from seeing it.

Let me get this straight -

Overall, it was okay. Ending was kind of weak, as others have noted. Big plot hole in my spoiler that really bothered me.

Judging by the attendence we saw at the theatre tonite, this movie is going to be huge.

The Dark Knight trailer was very nice (though, in my opinion, poorly edited). There was a nice cameo in I Am Legend as well (in Times Square, there was a billboard with the new Batman logo, and then, in the center of it, the new Superman logo).

I really liked the film. The city CGI was especially good (though, as usual, was weaker at night), and I didn't mind the less-realistic mutants in the least - just chalked it up to an artistic license that produced some plastic, rubbery looking skin.

Someone mentioned the mutants "getting smarter," but I never really got that. I, instead, think that they were reasonably smart all along. He said that the mutants had devolved to a point where they didn't even give a shit about sun exposure, but I immediately thought "No, he just had a personal connection to the one you just captured." They almost always swiftly took out any light sources at night, and that one appeared to almost lead them. They were, at the least, consistent.

I think he was fooling himself when he said that any trace of human social behavior was gone. He'd just seen that theory put to rest when he made his live capture.

    Saw it over the weekend.

Still, it's a great story and, as much better as it was over Omega Man, it could've been better. The effects were a little sub-par but the zombies were good. They didn't have to be as gruesome as some might've preferred. They were only a few years off being normal people after all.

edit - I saw the Dark Knight trailer and am really looking forward to a Batman movie for the first time in a long time!!

Neville's a biology guy. How many biology types you know that can actually rig a proper shortwave antenna so it broadcasts DX?

I think he said that the vamps ate everyone else in NYC. That he believed that he was the last person left.

As a non-religious guy, this was the best part of the story for me.... Neville losing his faith due to this ordeal and then reclaiming it as he finally saw some hope that he could end it. I don't know if was implicitly stated in the movie, but I got the notion that he was a part of the science team that implemented the viral cure. He certainly took ownage of the situation as if he had more at stake than the average victim.

I believe that his thought process might have led him to question his faith....afterall, the intentions to cure cancer was good... what kind of God would allow his loved children to die at the hands of a virus of their own making? ... while trying to cure for cancer, nonetheless? He might have resolved that there is no God looking out for him and that he was alone.... Truly alone. I guess in a way, I Am Legend, Neville's isolation, could be an analogy about the possibility of facing nihilism after losing your faith. Brilliant, if the writers meant it that way.

So he found some purpose at the end that made it all worthwhile for him.

But did it really have to be said? A single vampire had been seen flipping over an SUV. They were strong. The glass barrier was obviously very strong. It took the vamp several repeated blows at full strength to even make a crack in it. Several more to break it. I beleive that if Neville had simply thrown the grenade before the glass was completely broken, the vamps would not have been as totally destroyed as they were and they would have stayed in hot pursuit and eventually found and killed him, the girl, the kid and the cure.

It made total sense to me. That'spart of what I liked about the movie... it didn't spoon feed you.

What bugged me the most was that the mannequin, Fred, I believe, being moved was obviously a trap. If he beleivedthat he was the last person alive, how else could Fred have been moved if not by the Vamps? Did he think that maybe someone else was alive and moved Fred? How he could have fell for that, I don't know. I guess he really was going crazy.

I finally went and saw it.

I've wanted to see this movie since I first saw the preview near the start of the year, but I had to study for exams first.

And god damn was it a good movie.

Yup, it's quite good. I'm sure it's on the net somewhere, but it was about six minutes long.

Count me in the "They were always smart" camp.

Well there are a few ways to interpret the deal at the end:

I found out at dinner tonight that my friend had never seen Batman Begins. He was unaware it even existed. so I brought him back to my place and he watched it.

Now he's pumped for the sequel.

Saw it, liked it, 4 out of 5.

First hour was classic. Ending not so good.

Best movies I've seen this year is There Will be Blood and Juno.

I liked the movie quite a bit, the whole post-apocalypse bit really appeals to me for some reason. :clyde:

But I still maintain that The Mutants of 2051 A.D., is the best post-apocalypse movie EVER!

I saw The Omega Man last night, I Am Legend kicks its ass sideways. I did like The Omega Man, but the more I think about it the more I like I Am Legend.

Neville comes up with the cure, but his girlfriend turns into one of the 'Family' (they're not vampires in 'The Omega Man'). Neville gets captured and the family busts up his house, but he manages to escape with his girl. Alas, his machine gun jams and Matthias (the leader of the Family) throws a spear that mortally wounds Neville. In the end, the few remaining humans (mostly kids) show up; they're heading west. Neville gives them the cure before he dies and they take his girlfriend (who will presumably be cured) and leave.

I just watched "I Am Legend". The mutants (or whatever) reminded me of the creatures in the Billy Idol song "Dancing With Myself."

Anyone notice the Bob Marley CD Neville says is the best CD ever is "Legend/Best of Bob Marley"?
