Okay I sent invites to the both of you. Now we need atleast seven more people and then we can either set a live draft, or if it's all Wrodforgers, we can just do the draft in a thread here and I can manually assign the teams.
I demand my original baseball thread be the official baseball thread and the posers step off. Also, the Yankees SUCK!
Bizarro Day's over. Shep's thread has priority...certainly over one created by Polarslam! Thread re-opened!
I find myself watching the Blue Jays again. That starter Marcum is looking pretty good tonight. I hadn't noticed him before. And it's always nice to see one of my personal favorites doing well, as Frank Thomas just doubled to give his team the lead in the 7th.
Nice slapping of the very ordinary looking Red Sox tonight. Marcum dominated through 6 and only made one bad pitch all night (sadly, to Nancy Drew) The pen was nails, Thomas got off the snide, Eckstien is coming around, Scutero made a Rolen-esque grab...all in all an excellent game. Plus, the Rays waxed Ian Kennedy en route to stomping the Yankees (Hiya Pardot!) Plus m'boy Robbie Alomar got elevated to the level of Excellence tonight, along with the well deserving Paul Beeston (former team pres) PLUS the Jays nailed down Alex Rios on a 6+1 deal today which ensures we control him for the next 8 years and Aaron Hill also signed long term - both deals for WAY below market. 'Tis a sweet sweet day to be a Jays fan.
Diamondbacks looking good against the Rockies. Webb went seven innings with 2 runs (1 earned). Tough to do in Coors Field.
Braves take 2 outta 2 from the Mets!!!! (and one rainout). Sorano gave us another scare this afternoon by allowing 2 on in the 9th in the 3-1 game. Our pitching is going to have to do better. Its not the starters I'm worried about, Smoltz only gave up 2 hits this afternoon! It was the Bullpen that in the opening day at home gave up 7 runs and let up to that 12 inninng marathon where we lost 12-11 and then again in the and tehn in game 3 of the series gave up a 7th inninng run to tie the game and gave up another in the 10th for the 4-3 loss. Now question, why do are managers so damned intent on watching the pitch count when the pitcher is pitching good? Case and point: Today Smoltz came out after the 5th with 78 pitches I believe theysaid but had only given up 2 hits, 2 walks and recorded 6Ks. Showed no signs of weakness in the 5th but yet the decision was made to pull him out anyways. *gets on my * Makes no sense. Why not let a pitcher (whos not going to play for the next 5 days go as long as they can and save the BP for when they are actually needed? The Braves announcers were talking about this the 1st game ever played in the old Atlanta stadium back in 1966 where the starter went 13 inninngs! The other day the Braves went 12, used all there pitchers and had one of the starters warming up in the pen when they finally blew it. Any ideas on what the reasoning is here? It doesnt make any sense (at least to me) But on the good side, the offense looks like its coming around, in the 2 of 3 games that the Braves have won, the offense has looked great. Today they won 3-1 which is good, got a HR but last night's game they beat the Mets 11-5 including Johnson's 7th inninng grandslam-the 10th Brave to hit Grandslam while pinchhitting and in the 2nd game of the Pirates season they won 10-2! So if the offense can get going in every game and the BP can figure itself out, it can turn out to be a good year!
I thought I read somewhere that Smoltz has a bit of a tender elbow. Perhaps they're being careful with him.
D-Backs and Rockies trade a pair of Blown Saves in the 9th inning. Now it's the bottom of the 10th, D-Backs winning 5-2, with (I presume) Tony Pena coming in to lock it down. Be very nice to get an early season series sweep of the team that knocked us out of the NLCS! EDIT: Looks like it's Chad Qualls gonna close it out.
Baltimore is pasting Seattle so far, taking the first 3 of the 4 game series. I guess Baltimore got the better end of that trade that sent Bedard to Seattle.
Wow, Cards take 2 of 3 from the Rocks, then sweep the Nats. Whodathunkit? Maybe this season won't suck too much after all....
Might be (even though the announcers seems surprised to that they were pinch hititng for hm), they did say it was tender after the I believe it was the Cleveland game (last spring training game). Hopefully it'll get better if its still tender and he'll go deeper and keep pitching like this afternoon. After the Pittsburg series, the pen makes me jittery.
Big Hurt with the Grand Slam! Delcarman throws one Pitch and all Josh Beckett's screw ups cross the plate! Jays sweep the oh-so-ordinary Red Sox! Next up, 10 easy games. historically the Jays play the good teams tough and play down to the bad teams. they swear they know better this year, two weeks from now I'll know. right now I'm 65% confident this is a playoff caliber team (and I was reasonably confident a week ago) - if the slap around Oakland, Texas, and Baltimore as they should, that will go way up.
