I feel ya. We're 2-8 in one run games ourselves.

The last two games have been legitimate "oh well" situations but that six game losing streak is just too fresh for me to be so casual about them.

Brandon Webb is 7-0 now! Augie Ojeda had 6 RBI in the D-Backs 10-4 win over the Mets. Diamondbacks are 21-9 now.

Webby was named NL Pitcher of the Month for April too!

5 in an f'n row, baby....and the best damn pitching staff in the majors has now allowed a total of 12 runs in the last nine games.

Randy Johnson got win # 286 tonight---D-Backs beat the Phillies 6-4.

The hated Dodgers have been playing well and are on the D-Backs heels. The rest of the NL West is really stinking it up.

Arizona's Davis declared cancer-free after advanced test

PHOENIX -- Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Doug Davis said he has been pronounced cancer free after a sophisticated test showed no spread of the disease.

Davis said he got the news from surgeon Dr. Bob Evani, who removed the pitcher's cancerous thyroid gland on April 10.

"The cancer did not spread and it will not spread from here on out," Davis said Thursday.

He underwent a "nuclear CT scan," which would detect any spread of the disease.

"I shook Dr. Evani's hand, told him what a great job he did and what a great doctor he is and just was grateful," Davis said. "I hugged my fiancee and we got out of there, because nobody likes to stay in the doctor's office more than they have to."

The cancer was discovered before the season began but Davis had two starts before undergoing the surgery. He allowed two runs in six innings in a 10-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers two days before the surgery.

Davis is scheduled for two rehab starts for Triple-A Tucson, on Saturday and next Thursday. He is to have another CT scan in six months.

The Diamondbacks swept the Rockies after being swept by the Cubs. Webb is 9-0 and Randy Johnson won his 287th (or was it 288th) game. Still 4 1/2 games ahead of the hated Dodgers. On to Detroit!

Greg Maddux finally won his 350th career game. I don't think he'll be able to catch Warren Spahn (363 wins) --- the Padres are awful this year.

Chipper Jones raised his average to .423 tonight!

Randy Johnson pitched 7 shutout innings as the Diamondbacks beat the Tigers 4-0. They lead the NL West by 5 1/2 now. Randy got his 288th career win and is now 4-1. Maybe he has a shot at getting his 300th win this year.

^^^ He's now tied with Tommy John for 24th most wins of all-time!

What will be the new "standard of excellence" for lifetime wins? If Randy gets to 300, chances are he'll be the last one to get there.

The D'Backs have to be liking the fact that they have three sub-.400 teams in their division....

My Jays are back to .500 and are 12-6 in May. There also ahead of the Yankees but the Yanks sucked early on last year too so I'll reserve crowing about that just yet.

I think eventually you could have someone else reach 300, but a guy will have to get a lot younger start at piling up wins than Johnson did.

Still, probably have to dial back at least to 250.

Pedro is a giant among his generation and and he still needs 41 to get there (largely because of injuries of course but still)

But look at a guy like Roy Oswalt or Roy Halladay. - they are 30 and just-turned 31 respectively, so figure maybe 8-10 more productive years and the fact that they need over 130 wins apiece to get to 250 and that's an achievable yet high standard.

I can see someone like Brandon Webb or Jake Peavy reaching 250 if they stay healthy, but I think the days of the 300 game winner are probably over.

What's wrong with the Tigers? They've been a big disappointment so far this year.

Ya the Tigers team is hard to figure out. They may be starting to pick it up. It may just be because of the opponet, but yesterday they beat the Mariners 12-8 and again today 9-4 (with a 7-run 3rd inning).

Back home here in Atlanta, hopefully the Braves have figured it out this year to. Yesterday they won both ends of a double hitter against the Mets (6-1 in game 1, 6-2 in game 2) and then just won game 3 of the series in the 11-4 clobbering. Hopefully get the sweep tommorrow night) and took 2 out of 3 in the from Oakland in the 1st interleague weekend this season

And the Braves just won game 4 of the series 4-2 and the sweep on the Mets is complete

Doug Davis is pitching his first big league game since his April thyroid cancer surgery. So far he's allowed 1 run in 5 innings. The Diamondbacks lead the Braves 10-1 in the 6th inning.



It would be nice for the D-Backs to get a few wins after going through a 6 game road losing streak.

But the Braves came back and won this afternoon (after that pelting last night) 3-1 after a 2-run HR in the 9th


And speaking of Peltings, anyone seeing whats going on in Detriot? The Tigers lead the Twins 19-3 in the 7th

A good effort by Randy Johnson wasted.

Jays are back above .500 and have as many wins in May as any team in baseball (15-8 this month)

Jessie Listch, (our number five starter!) just broke Jimmy key's team record for consecutive innings without a walk, and Lyle Overbay today tied the team record with 11 consecutive plate appearances reaching base.

And we finally put those damned Orioles under our heels!

Things are looking up. If it wasn't for that damn disaster in the second half of April we'd be running with the big dogs right now.

What a strange 4 game series split for the Braves. They beat the Big Unit and pound Brandon Webb but get shut down by Doug Davis and Micah Owings.

Yes that was a strange one. Webb was due for a bad outing though. He hadn't had one all year. Randy is looking good -- I hope it lasts for a while.

Ya now that I think abut it that was an odd one.

The gamethat I went to last year was v. AZ and it was the one where Webb shut down the Braves. To read about how the game went today (I worked through the entire game) was abit of a shocker.

What is it about the Braves and the road and 1-run games. They've lost 2 straight now to the Brewers

Well, m'boys won more games than anyone (yes, including Tampa) in the month of May and are still rolling along.

The may not have kicked the shit out of Joba tonight but they at least to a nice healthy piss on "Jobamania" and all those Yankee fans who think the baseball universe revolves around every insignificant thing that happens in NY.

Now to wait for the Rays' sudden but inevitable collapse and things will be very good for the Jays ...
