1. The biggest lie that pop culture promulgates is that the good-hearted slacker can succeed if he just believes in himself enough. Believing in oneself should come from a sober assessment of one's abilities, not from endless infusions of ego-boosting reassurances. The former is justified; the latter is not. 2. This country has the success it has because people worked hard for it. It will not endure without continued hard work.
One of the things I like about Knocked Up was it's anti-slacker message. Ben is forced to get his shit together, abandon his stupid website "venture", and get a real job.
