No, but I had a few beers with him a couple of weeks ago and I think he just can't be arsed right now. He's still around though.

    I live to serve.

I was never really around back when Jeriko was, but I've heard so much about him long after he's been gone that I wish I had. If you've still got them bunched up that much after all these years, you must have done something right.

EDIT - And you just gave me a thread idea. It'll be great.

There are lots of people I miss, but for various reasons so I can't pin individuals.

But your point about other forums is well made. Other than some games-centric ones I go to, the only other one is a very, very, big, very liberal and left wing one, and it sometimes makes me incandescent with rage at some of the viewpoints of the left; but it has a good football sub-forum so it balances it out

I think I've just outgrown a lot of what the board is about now :(

I think we need a few more Storms, and a few more 14thDocs. Even if the latter is a loser. :bergman:

Storm, Jeriko, Hood, PGT, guffbox, gul and everyone in Sokar's list come to mind right away. Definitely more than that, though.

If one were to judge from this thread, "improvements to Wordforge" essentially come down to "get rid of everybody I don't like so my friends and I can sit around posting 'Fuck yeah!' all the time"...from both sides.

Yeah, Henry did advocate getting rid of 'Sokar and his buddies.'

Otherwise I think that on top of all the normal WF bullshit, there was a pretty good discussion about what we need on WF.

And you seriously don't think any of us wanted to get 'rid' of you, do you?

Well, darkstryke hasn't told any stories about emus, redecorating his house for his SO, or his run ins with the Humble PD or Harris County Sheriff's Department, so that's a strong indicator it's not Jeriko.

The problem as I see it, and keep in mind this is coming from someone who's only been lurking for quite some time, is that WF's biggest strength has become its biggest flaw.

Most message boards have a central topic they revolve around, be it a certain TV show, a particular sport or sports team or a hobby. So most of the discussion on the board centers around that topic, with people treating each other in a friendly manner because they have that topic in common. There might be other forums to talk about other issues related to that topic (say, a general baseball forum on a site that's primarly about the Chicago Cubs) or a "talk about whatever you want forum." But in the end, it's a board about that topic.

From its inception, WF hasn't had that issue, so the discussion is free to revolve around whatever the members want it to. And that's led to some pretty amazing threads stacked up against some pretty embarrassing ones. WF isn't about anything except whatever the topics being discussed are.

Even during the past few years, as board membership has drifted toward the conservative side and we've had a surplus of threads about guns, liberterianism, the Civil War and general defamation of liberals and liberal causes, the idea of the board not revolving around one particular topic has held up. But lately, it's seemed like not only has the board chosen its official topic, the chosen topic is the board itself.

Basically, WF has turned into a BBS about WF, with the few members who choose to disagree with the majority singled out for abuse. And clearly, it's enjoyable for those who have an axe to grind with the personas involved, or who just have nothing else to do and find internet trolling fulfilling. But it's also clear that a lot of members don't find it interesting or stimulating, and they're moving on.

So what's to be done about it? As far as I can tell, nothing. It's already clear that most of the people who don't care about the head-up-its-ass anti-liberal circle jerk this place has morphed into have already left or are posting much less frequently. Soon, the shit throwers will be the only people left. And WF will be like all the other right-wing boards out there, only one that used to be a lot more interesting.

    That's my two cents.

    PS: Flashlight is a douche
    PPS: I got engaged.

I'm not even sure it's a matter of getting rid of those who disagree, it's that the board has become a place where those who disagree just don't want to bother going to.

You mean those who disagree get caught blatantly lying, make up some shit about how biased the board is, and then leave?

    Yeah, and screw you too.

    Congrats on the engagement though.

This is the part that well, pisses me off.

People who expect everyone else to be the providers of the interesting, stimulating material and if they don't get it, run away.

It's a BBS....it works best when lots of people provide lots of topics to talk about. The answer to make a place more interesting is to post more, not run away. Plenty of people are here to talk...talk to them! Ignore morons...either just don't pay them no mind or use the ignore function and keep on discussing the stuff that interests you.

If no one does it, then no one will do it. Whatever Wordforge is or is to become is in all of your hands...it's not the staff or just a couple of people unless you allow it to become that way.

Much like Luke Skywalker, the Force is in all of you..many of you just won't or don't have the spine to use it.
