After 10+ years on the market, I still love this game. It's got a great combination of empire building and blowing shit up.

    Anyone else play it?

Probably one of my favorite games of all time, and I STILL do love it.

I would play it even now if I still had the CD. :(

There's a way to download it and install it on your computer without needing the CD. I can't remember how to do it, but it was pretty easy.

    Yep. Classic.

I wonder how many of my old games will still work when I upgrade to Vista?

I hear Sins of a Solar Empire is the best thing since, especially at multiplayer. Haven't played it myself.

I drug out my Alpha Centauri game the other day. Playing the Spartans, just created the Cloudbase Acadamey and have launched a vicious aerial assault against the Usurpers alien faction.

MOOII is an all-time great, but SMAC is every bit as good.

I got a copy of MOO2 on my Vista system. It has a few bugs, but not a deal killer.

I paid $10 and did a direct download from the Atari site.

MOO2 was one of the games that seriously sucked my life away. Although with processors hundreds of times faster, I wonder if a full campaign would take as long.

Now that I think about it, most of the time was spent waiting for the computer to process all the moves. Especially when everyone had a lot of planets, ships and colonies, that game slowed to a crawl.

It moves really fast with a good processor and not having to run from the CD, though I've only played the AI since I started playing again last year.

Let's talk ship design. I've always been a fan of equipping my larger ships with heavy mount plasma cannons and continuous ion pulse cannons. The plasma cannons knock out the shields and the ion cannons destroy the drive, either knocking the enemy ship out or making it immobile and easy to capture.

Always used ships fitted with Hard shields and mauler devices, used the ship hull that looked like the defiant.

When you really wanted to kill something Stellar converters always did the job.

Steller Converters were the end game weapon. Against other human players, you really have to have everything go right in order to eventually acquire it.

I was always the lizardmen, and concentrated on expanding my population incredibly. Having a LOT of population gave a lot of research points. Not as much as the psionic guys, but I could never play that species properly, because everyone would be targeting you.

Whenever there were 4-5 guys in a room on hotseat, they would always take out the psionic aliens first, and they never won.

I also remember have problems with the humans too. From what I can recall, they were well balanced and they had very good shields at the beginning of the game.
