keywords "limited" and "consider". key phrase "if those states give permission." key phrase "establishment of a process that will allow us to make future drilling decisions based on science and fact." not "drill here, drill now, pay less" I really think the morons that bought land yachts when gas was cheap should be openly mocked. Much like those that bought McMansions on sub prime loans. Stupidity doesn't deserve redress whether it's half a million or 50 thousand purchase.
The Democratic nominee and leader of the party has just put offshore drilling back onto the table. This is a huge shift, the usual weasel words notwithstanding.
To me it seems this is the same thing as McCain saying new taxes were still on the table. Each candidate is stating a willingness to compromise in order to actually get real shit done.
Well, "limited" and "consider" are better weasel words than we usually get from Obama. When he says "reasonable" it gives me fucking hives.
There's no "leader of the party", that's why things are insane as they are right now. Nominally, Dean should be in charge, but Pelosi and Obama seem to be vying for power, with Clinton biding her time.
I can't wait for the press release stating that Obama is willing to consider limited 2nd Amendment rights for his flock.
I don't have a problem with drilling per se. I just think that our undrilled lands may prove more useful in the future, when supply is even lower than it is now.
I still would like to see this tied to some sort of mandatory investment in alternative energy infrastructure. Like many here have stated, without oil, we would be in the stoneage... We need to diversify where and how we get our energy.
Hey, if Obama can have that kind of impact on right wingers, that's just one more reason to vote for him.
No -- private drilling on public land. The drill squad demands that we give mineral rights to the oil industry and risk permanent damage to federal lands in order to shave a few cents off the gallon price.
Then surely most of this oil would not end up in American gas tanks but would be sold onto the world market
Close. It's actually the eco-freaks that love watching the American people suffer the expense of high gas prices rather than seeing private enterprise make inroads on their statist control of this country's land and resources.
You dont have enough oil to change the global price very much Who do you think you are, Saudi Arabia?
So, when someone proposes conserving gas or electricity, I shouldn't do it, right? After all, I'm only one person, and, compared to the whole, my contribution is very little... (And, by the way, with the oil reserves we have access to along the coasts, in the gulf, in shale, and in Alaska, we could produce a tremendous amount of oil...)
why would you want to conserve gas or electricity? Because someone tells you? Wouldn't it be to save money? It's all about money. In the case of drilling eco-sensitive areas it's putting easy money within reach of oil companies without benefiting consumers in the short term and harming them in the long term by fostering continued dependence on oil, the bulk of which will continue to be imported. But just keep chanting: drill here, drill now, pay less. If it makes you feel better. By the way, the oil that we'd make available to the international market by allowing easy access to coastal waters, and ANWR might double our proven reserves to about 40 billion barrels. Even if this were brought online, it wouldn't make a "tremendous" difference in world oil production. It would make a dent. And it wouldn't come close to filling the US needs even if we nationalized it. And no one has explained yet why oil companies aren't drilling the shit out of Canada with 170 billion in proven reserves (not counting tar sands). Why is gasoline so expensive in Canada?!
Well now that Obamessiah has spoken, it will be interesting to see how he fairs in leading the likes of Botox Pelosi, and Dingy Harry.
I'm not sure that I can. But, don't worry, I'm not trying to beat you out in the area of being crude.
There's no need to try -- you are a natural. I seriously wonder whether you could go a day without using personal insults to describe liberal politicians. Can you discuss politics in a civil manner? I strongly doubt it.
