Who knew Async was going to resort to brevity on us? My son would live and I would die a horrible death. tsk, tsk.
Hmm, well any group far enough on the ocean to hit a deserted island is going to have a sailor capable of lashing/tying the vines and such together for shelters. 50/50 odds that person has working knowledge of lobster traps and can apply that to shallow water fish. A naturopathic healer would be the most versatile medic by knowing herbal remedies and nutritional sources. They also tend to be good gardeners. After taht, I don't think peoples' principle occupations are very relevant. Most folks' secondary skillsets would round out the needs of the group.
To survive on a tropical island you need: a spinal surgeon, a fugitive, a box company employee, a con artist, a bass player, an Iraqi torturer, a fat guy who just won the lottery, a Korean mafia enforcer and his hen-pecked wife and a pregnant Australian girl. And some cannon fodder.
Survival: Botanist Fisherman Engineer Optionally a glass blower/artist Escape: Chemist Carpenter Tailor Everyone else is superfluous, but it helps if they all have common sense.
You didn't actually read the thread, did you? Otherwise you'd have repped me for this: http://www.wordforge.net/showpost.php?p=1654841&postcount=14 sigh.
... You do realize you'll only be confined to watch as Norris takes all the women into his roundhouse-kick-constructed sand mansion to create more manly babies to save all your asses, right?
You underestimate Chuck Norris, he can roundhouse-kick his offspring into existence, complete with roundhouse-kicking beards. Even for the girls.
Clearly, as has been mentioned, a Professor is the most valuable asset to castaways. A cook such as Mary Ann would be useful as well. All others are expendable.
