I watch a lot of crime dramas. I like the whole investigation into the crime. Law and Order, CSI, Homicide: Life on the Streets. etc. But one thing I just can't stand is in CSI. They investigate crimes. OK. They enter homes after a murder. They collect evidence. They search for clues to the crime. WHY?? Why or why do they have to search with flashlights??? TURN THE FUCKING LIGHTS ON!!!! How come the search has to be done in the dark?? This is the stupidest thing I see on these shows. Mostly CSI. They walk into darkened rooms and NEVER just turn on the lights. Me, I would bring in friggin' floodlights. And I think they search fro sperm way too much. Its always the black light and the sperm spots. Gimme a break with that shit. Collect the sperm and move on. One thing you clearly learn from these shows. Its if a person has been strangled or suffocated. Check for thoses paticeal(sp?) hemorrhages in the eyes.
Have you also noticed they almost every detective story starts with the police going to a strip joint looking for info!
They always search with regular flashlights. It just stands out to me. If I walk into a room I turn the light on. Simple as that. WHY DON'T THEY?
It's just a TV show! And the do it for dramatic effect. Although when they're looking for the sperm, they have to have the lights off so tehy can use the black lights to FIND it before they can collect a sample.
It drives me nuts. I understand about the black light. But they find a body and then search through the house. Walk into a room. Flashlight. Open a walk in closet. No pulling of the sting for the light.
You know, back in the beginning, those great lines that Caruso delivers were good and funny. Now it's gotten kind of.....tacky? Not sure if that would be the word, but it's just gotten out of hand. You know when it's coming......he stands still.....puts his hands on his hips.....looks off into the distance.....and says whatever the damned line is. Yet I still watch.....mostly for Delco. *sigh*
I hate that one. I watch the Vegas one. Caruso should see that loop. I bet he drops that whole shit after seeing it.
My wife and I say the "tuen the lights on!" thing all the time. On searching for DNA: SNL did an X-Files spoof many years ago called The XXX-Files. Mulder and Scully investigating a supernatural porn crime. Scully is on a ladder scraping something off the ceiling... Mulder: Whatcha got up there? Scully: Sperm.
I always get a kick out of the absurdly convoluted crap that goes on in that show. My favorite was when the Mob put out a hit on Horatio. If I was the Mob, this would have been my plan... 1. Find out where he lives. 2. Wait there until he gets home. 3. Shoot him in the head. Here's how they really planned it though... 1. Wait in some random place until Horatio's girlfriend walks by. 2. Shoot her with a sniper rifle until she's mortally wounded (but not dead yet). 3. Horatio will beat the ambulance there. 4. Horatio will ride in the ambulance with the mortally wounded girlfriend. 5. Run the ambulance off the road. 6. Shoot him in the head. That plan almost got tripped up before it even started by the fact that the Horatio's girlfriend's brother's crazy ex girlfriend just happened to be in the exact same building as the Mob sniper, with a sniper rifle of her own, planning to kill Horatio's girlfriend for reasons of her own totally unrelated to why the Mob wanted to shoot her....but she chickened out at the last minute.
^And yet CSI: Miami is currently the most popular show in the world. I don't get it either. ps- RR->MC Whoosh
I made it to 3:32 before stopping. God that was insane. Is that what he does the whole show? I've never watched that show. Can't stand the fact that they won't film it in Miami. It's awfully weird to see mountain ranges. At least with the Law & Order shows and the other CSI shows they film where they are fictionally located. (As far as I know)
Every now and then Law & Order has some scenes filmed in California but for the most part its all in NYC. There was a time you saw them often in the city while filming. I drive past the courts buildings often. Most of the scenes when they are walking around near the office are true locations.
Do the locations match geographically? I've been watching a lot of Boston Legal lately, and they frequently show a shot of Kirk walking around somewhere, then cut to walking into the office building which is in a completely different part of town. I work around the corner from Crane Poole and Schmidt, and I've never seen an exterior shot on the show that's anywhere near that building.
That happens so much with stuff set in London, it isn't funny any more. They'll show someone under Tower Bridge, and the next minute they're in Piccadilly Circus... those are miles apart! For those that know New York, it's a bit like getting from Columbus Circle to Battery Park in five minutes on foot...
You learned NYC well. That is quite accurate. In Law & Order, they are often spot on. I have yet to see anything outrageous as to locations. But I'm sure there are some flubs in there.
