Chasegate is a classic <@EmhMarkI> Chasegate was painful. <baba> is it like Faith in george <baba> now that's a classic <Nobody> Emh actually banned a Trek celebrity, baba <baba> ah <@EmhMarkI> I thought she was a troll! <Nobody> which is embarrassing for a trek board <@EmhMarkI> Based on matching IPs! <Nobody> lol <@EmhMarkI> Hmph. <baba> i think post this on wordforge chase masterson banned <baba> thats sad
She got hold of one of the other 'trek celebrities' that are on the board - probably ... oh, who's that guy from PocketBooks?... Anyway, it really was Chase and EMH was sufficiently remorseful.
OMG! The POSTER Damar, or the scene in the show? Because if it were the poster, that would be gut-bustingly hilarious! What was her username, and why was she banned??
I was referring to the scene in Sacrifice of Angels. Didn't know there was a poster named Damar. Why would it be hilarious if he/she said this?
I believe she used her own name as a username and whatever she posted (in Trek News or Trek Today or whatever) was just critical enough to catch EMH's attention - cuz, you know, everyone who posts in there is just bashing Trek anway, I don't why they bother. Anyway, EMH, took here username, her post and (apparently) her IP address and decided she was a spambot or a troll or something - we get those from time to time. He was just doing his job and Chase took it all with grace and humor.
Sort of. A few users made disparaging remarks about Chase Masterson, and a new user registered in order to "defend" her. There was some back and forth, and then Chase herself decided to register. Emh saw that her IP address matched the outraged user's and assumed that the guy was a crazed fan who registered the name. He banned the "Chase Masterson" account, and another mod announced that Chase wasn't the real deal. When I logged in, I decided to have a look at the accounts, and I saw that Chase's registration email was "chase@chasemasterson.com." Since that's where the account confirmation link would go, only someone with access to it would be able to create the account. So if it wasn't Chase Masterson, it was at least her webmaster or something. When I unbanned her account, she let me know in a PM that the "outraged" guy was her webmaster, who alerted her to the thread. Ever since, it's been a useful source of comedy whenever Emh has gotten a little full of himself (read: "every other post").
Stuff happens, while I understand why she was banned it still seems the ban-hammer was brought down a little too quickly.
That's sometimes the case with new supermods/"admins" at TrekBBS. I don't know whether they're just itchy to play with their new abilities or they think we're asking more of them than we are in regards to keeping an eye on the place. Come to think of it, it wasn't too long after that incident that Bonz issued a "No permabans without my say-so" edict, which has helped to curb a lot of that type of crap.
Hey, so long as the poster (in this case Chase Masterson) is still enjoying the board, no harm no foul. And I can imagine the fun to be had at Emh's goof.
Oh. my. god. That's too freaking funny. A Trekbbs mod actually banned a trek celebrity. My head's spinning, too many possibilties, must resist... need to return to TK... must resist... ok i'm over it.
I really have no idea. I can't say that I've tried to keep up. Too many petty rules, too many arbitrary interpretations of board rules. It would be a full time job to try and keep up.
Well, we can offer you dental.* *It's really just FrontLine with a baseball bat, but it actually works pretty well for some procedures.
