After a dismal pilot, I thought I would give this show a second chance and watch a few more episodes. It's still ridiculous. I can't believe 8 million viewers tune in to watch this drivel. (Although I can't believe millions more watch American Idol, so what do I know.)
After getting the hose-over by "Lost" I didn't have any interest in giving another J.J. Abrams series a shot. I still don't. Really, you should be grateful that it revealed its suckitude in the first episode. Better that than a great start with the suckness only seeping in after a season or so.
It's amusing. I shall continue to watch. With Eureka on break, it's not like there's anything better to watch.
I'm enjoying it. I was hoping, because it's based in New England, that it would have a Lovecraftian vibe, and it sorta started going down that route, with the brilliant but institutionally insane scientist with a spotty memory who performed experiments on humans in the past, and a corporation researching a way to extract information from a corpse, but instead it's taking more of an X-Files approach. I'm hoping it'll go more of a Lovecraft route as it goes on.
You're hoping for quite a bit. I doubt they have writers good enough to weave in a GOOD Lovecraft vibe.
Ah, well, for me there is a certain amount of time I will devote PER WEEK to television. If I'm watching more than four or five programs a week, it's a rarity. Instead of watching a program that isn't so good, I'd recommend using the hour to catch up on reading some good books instead.
I can excuse the pseudo-science even, because it's fiction (but I wish there was some more real or edge science like nanotech, AI, etc) but it's the stuff that patiently defies the basic laws of physics which make me cringe at Fringe. It's to bad, because that old crazy scientist guy is a great character. I'll even still turn the show on, but only pay attention when he's talking.
The show is overly serious for the pseudoscience it spouts and the entire premise is a decade late but it's acted well and weird enough to at least keep me interested.
I watched the pilot and wasn't impressed. I'm sticking with the much better version called Torchwood.
I actually liked the pilot a great deal and was a little let down by episodes 2 & 3. I'll watch 4 tonight before I make my final verdict.
House (reruns), Dirty Jobs, Futurama (reruns), Law & Order (reruns). All of those are better than "Fringe".
Jesus frickin christ, I'm talking about things to watch AT EXACTLY THAT GODDAMN TIME SLOT!! 9:00 tuesday!! Understand now?
