It seems both companies have donated sizable amounts to defeat prop 8 in California. http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/261606 http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/261633 I guess it's time for the religious right to switch to satellite TV. I wonder what they'll do for internet.
Isn't that a referendum thing? That is for the people to decide. How will money change that unless they intend to buy votes or something. Let the people decide one way or another and be done with it once and for all.
Their site lists who has given big donations. http://www.eqca.org/site/pp.asp?c=kuLRJ9MRKrH&b=4026491
It sounds like a good deal. A way for the people to bring up things that the politicians won't and put it straight to the voters. I like it. I wish we had it here.
When I was in San Francisco for my mates wedding, the photographer thought that the two of us were getting married. There was some commemoration on in City Hall so it was supposed to be a big deal. I've never laughed so hard.
(to: apostle)Time Warner has donated as well. If I'm not mistaken, don't they provide cable and internet service in Memphis? Will you be changing providers?
bellsouth was just bought back out by AT@T a while back or something like that as I am an AT@T customer again. I really hope this backfires on them in some way. This is a decision for the people of california to make, its not a political battle at all.
It goes against everything I believe in to put individual rights to a majority vote. A collective decision made in this manner has no legitimacy in my eyes.
I think they are deciding if it is an individual right or not. I think it will be a hoot if all the pro Obama gays who have been getting all these democrats to vote find out that Obama won there by a landslide but they also approved the proposition.
So, EP, if a majority of California voters decided that the 2nd amendment shouldn't apply in their state, should the entire state be bound by their wishes?
Surely you are not claiming that the right to bear arms stems solely from the existence of the 2nd amendment, right?
It's an irrelevant argument. There is no "right" to gay marriage currently established by Constitutional law, which would preclude Prop 8 from being put into effect if it is voted on.
The entire state of CA is full of Fruits and Nuts anyway, so it doesnt matter what their courts think
Apple and Google I can see - they want to polish their image with all consumers everywhere, and gays buy ipods too. A bad rep travels fast on the Net. But what the fuck business does the California Teachers union have spending union dues on politcal agendas? California Teachers (the "CTA") have donated $1,000,000 of the Union dues it's collected to promote voting No on Prop 8. It sounds like a good Prop, but you'd think the teachers' union would be out spending dues to prevent choice or resist changes in education, or to increase education funding again, or to help preserve the status quo.
No surprise, as gays are a key market sector for Apple. All joking aside: consider that since Apple already offers these benefits. It's not going to hurt them if they become mandatory. But it might hurt competitors. Of course, it is also possible that the management at Apple does in fact feel strongly about this issue for purely ethical reasons.
What the fuck makes you think that you or anyone else is entitled to determine who is a suitable mate for someone else anyway? How is this something that anyone gets a vote on? There should only be 2 votes that count.... and that's among the people involved in the actual relationship. How anyone can support this and turn around and call them self a conservative is beyond me.
Very easily...conservative does basically just mean that people like things as they are or they used to be. In Russia, the conservatives are the ones talking about how good a thing communism is.
A conservative is supossed to be someone who is very conservative about grant a government power over it's people. Liberals take a very liberal view of the power of a government. Conservatism doesn't end with taxation. As a matter of fact, liberty is only marginally about money. Leave me the fuck alone. Dont try to tell me when life begins. Don't try to tell me that big brother has to approve my mate before we can get married. This is the biggest and best case of "big brother" government in politics today. Today's "conservsative" isn't conservative at all.
