Ooops A lot of people are going to be pissed this got out, especially due to the fact many employers look down on BNP membership And it's ridiculous this kind of data gets out. I mean, I find it amusing as I don't like the BNP, but still they ought to keep hold of this data properly.
Why should someone's party membership be a secret? I'd rather have them out in the open. Of course, we can't discriminate in hiring or retaining employees based on that but maybe things are different there.
I noticed a couple of amusing things - Mr Panzavecchia no longer wishes to be a member due because the 'BNP is "doing nothing to help me"', maybe he got confused with Maltese National Party?
BNP membership pretty much equates to losing your job if you're Army or Police, and I agree it's wrong. There is the argument that whilst BNP voters have a wide range of backgrounds, their actual members lean towards the nutty neo-nazi types of the far right, but I figure you sack people for being crap at their job, not because they have views you don't like.
Anyway, I should be outraged over this, being the privacy hawk I am. But it's so damn hard when it's those nutjobs...
Whilst I'm finding it hard to be too sympathetic, to list addresses and telephone numbers really is going too far. Some of them are kids or are adults whose children are mentioned within the list. There are some great e-mail addresses on there though. nannynollocks@******.com, bigmofomatt@******.com and furrybear@*****.com made me giggle.
I bet a lot of backups have been made of this list, and there are going to be a lot of people pissed when they realise this has been released.
http://northwestnationalists.blogspot.com/2008/11/bnp-membership-list-2008-goes-online.html This is glorious, seeing a whole heap of people panicking because their membership is now public knowledge.
So it's perfectly okay in Britian to fire someone for his/her beliefs and not just for his/her actions?
What would happen to a police officer/teacher in the USA if they were found to be a member of the KKK?
Probably nothing other than being shunned. We don't outlaw groups here nor are we allowed to fire people for their political or personal views.
They'll likely be asked to resign over credibility issues, but I don't think anyone should be fired over a political party, no matter how distasteful it might be.
Unless you're saying that the BNP has a 130+ year history history of organizationally sanctioned repression, murder, rape, etc. due to the color of someone's skin, your comparison is invalid.
Well technically no. The founder of the party however is well documented as being a Nazi sympathizer, to the degree of having photographs of himself in Nazi uniform, in front of a swastika flag, underneath a photo of Hitler. The parties platform also involves restoring the glorious white race and getting rid of other races. There are lots of things that prevent someone being able to become a cop, essentially belonging to the modern Nazi party is not one I am losing sleep over.
Nick Griffiin has just been on Breakfast TV bleating about human rights violitions! 'Sfunny how those who are quickest to claim human rights are those keenest on denying them to others...
] Yeah. The guy who leaked this list deserves legal punishment, that's for sure, can't find any sympathy for anyone on the list though.
I don't know the policies of the BNP. In France we have the Front National that has a very bad reputation as well. However, you can't label all people registering for this party as racist because a lot of people vote for this party when they want to send a strong signal to the "establishment" that the middle class and the poor are fed up with politicians. I don't believe that anyone would think that a right-wing political party is fit for power, but it's got its use with the "fed up" vote.
According to Griffin, the person who leaked it did so because the BNP had gone more moderate... I don't blame any of the conspiracy theories though, the BNP have been getting more popular - and will likely do so during times of economic problems - and it is convenient for this to come out as the Prime Mentalist's improving in the polls.
I don't know if France is anything like the US in terms of the number of people who join a party, but in the UK it is a lot rarer for people to actually join a party officially. All the people on that list are people who signed up to join the BNP and made donations to it, while I'm sure there are a few people who just got caught up the overwhelming majority would have to be blind and deaf to get to the point of actually registering with the BNP without knowing what it stands for.
There's a difference between voting for a party and registering for it, many people who vote BNP wouldn't think of joining the party, those who join it lean very much towards the little Englanders and the chavs. Certainly not fit for the power Labour has given the government It's why I'm such a fan of small government, you can stick the Nazis in charge for all I care then, as all they're going to be able to is bitch, moan and play dress up. Their ability to further their politics starts and ends at their front door in such a set-up.
