I got some butterfly chops at home in the freezer. I may just grill some up tonight, in honor of the swine flu.

If you're in the US and are eating tacos that actually came from Mexico, you deserve the swine flu or worse. :bergman:

Bacon, now harnessing the power of stupid to bring you lower prices!

If only we could figure out how to harness the power of stupid to make other energy sources besides bacon cheaper . . .

It is decided to slaughter all swine herds present in Egypt, starting from today

    Fuckin pig-ignorance.

And why am I not surprised at the poor level of reporting from the BBC -PC/LIBnews, as it closes the article:
"Pigs can act as a "melting pot" for several flu strains."
As if that justifies Egypt's stupid reaction. Probably just an anti-Christian thing (Egypt, not the Beeb, which usually limits itself to anti-business).

Oh, the point: enough herds are slaughtered (from ignorance) and prices could spike? Any pork belly speculators here?

Okay, so since swine flu *is* transmitted by pigs to humans, and Egypt is a poor country where pigs are no doubt kept in close proximity to humans, and farmers lack the resources to have all of their livestock tested, this is ignorant because -?

Oh, right, because you say it is.

There's some 6 to 8 million Coptic Christians in Egypt, apparently.

I think they only make up 1-2% of the population. I'd have to check, but some Christian denominations avoid pork as well.

Has JohnM hacked your account? :unuts:

The solutions to swine flu are several:

    • Don't keep pigs in close proximity to humans
Conduct random testing of swine herds to rule out infection
Develop a vaccine against this particular strain of swine flu (flu viruses mutate frequently)
Inoculate as many pigs as possible
Separate infected pigs and destroy them

Most if not all of those require the sort of capital not readily available in a country like Egypt.

Is the current destruction of all swine herds overkill? Yes. But do you have a better suggestion?

Or do you just want to talk nonsense?

No thanks. I'm no genius, but smart enough to recognize when I'm way outmatched.

Besides, you're fluent, and I barely speak your language.
