If you don't unlock, how about a good reason why its locked?

I'm exercising owner's perogative and closing a thread that I personally find extraordinarily disgusting.

You are aware that sets an amazingly bad precedent, right?

Yep. But the ugliness on display there is more than I'm willing to put up with. You guys want to call each other names in the Red Room, fine. But that thread was rocketing into the worst sort of racism.

And you'll note that I didn't delete it, or delete any posts, or anything like that.

It honestly doesn't matter, the thread didn't violate the board rules. I mean if you want to say "I'm the owner and that's how it is", that's fine. I'm just saying it doesn't look good. Either way, I've said my piece.

For what it's worth, I think you've been doing a good job since taking over, your only bad call (imo) is making El Chump a mod. (No, I'm not joking).

I said specifically Lanz has the right as owner to do anything he wishes, I just said it doesn't look good. The RR has never been about protecting people, that goes doubly so when someone brings the attacks upon themself.

EDIT: It doesn't look good because there has been a lot of discussion about the staff taking a hands off approach to the RR, but the owner decided to close a thread that violated no rules simply because he didn't like it.

Now I don't think Lanz would ever do this, but what if he decided he didn't like right wing posts? or left wing posts? or posts by you?

You must understand that I am loathe to take actions like that, especially in the Red Room. But what was starting to happen in that thread was, simply, not something I was willing to tolerate.

Ok, we know that Lanzman realises no rules were broken, we know he's pulling owner's privilege, and we know everyone realises he can. Now that that's all settled, I'd like to request that someone lock this thread before it reaches page 15.

Also, as a matter of fact, as far as I know, BLATANT RACISM IS ALLOWED IN THE RED ROOM. That's why it's the Red Room.

I have a board full of... well, I'm not sure what to call them, and I come here for a break and what do I find but people acting like 13 year olds with the whining and name calling.

So what if the owner decides to lock a thread once in a while? There are still plenty of name calling and whining opportunities to go around. It is the sacred duty of every board member everywhere to see how far they can push mom and dad and then to whine when the line gets drawn.

But just like naughty children everywhere, you will all be happier with some boundries. Now go clean your room or I'll take away your PS3 for 2 days.

Okay, now that we're back on topic, I'll just say this much:

Cliché #1: Just because you *can* do a thing, blah-blah-blah, etc.

Cliché #2: Two wrongs don't make a right, blah-blah-blah, etc.

Mewa's thread was in extremely bad taste. He shouldn't have started it, and IMO he deserves at least a friendly.

However, it's not as if many, many others haven't started "Let's make fun of Tasvir's disability" threads and posts for years, so maybe Mewa thought he was as exempt from the bounds of good taste as those who went before.

That said, when others mocked Tas, they were greeted with a mix of disgust and amusement, not "Let's all play the race card."

In short, nothing good was going to come of that thread, and if that's all any of you have to contribute to the Red Room, you do keep emphasizing the reason why some of us are glad we have an alternate venue.

I'm glad to hear Lanzman was loathe to close that thread. I believe he's doing a pretty good job as owner so far, but I must wonder why that particular thread?

Surely we've had the word Nigger used left right and center on more than one occasion, thanks to Megatron. I am willing to overlook one thread, but I hope this isn't the beginning of a pattern, but rather an anomaly that happens as often as Halley's Comet, or a Baba post that makes sense.

But yet you can't bring yourself to stay in that alternate venue. You keep coming out and trying to force people to post the way you want. You want to stop discussion you don't like, how very open-minded and progressive of you.

Y'know, the thread lock is really bad timing too. It seems that the bitching has died down a little bit between the factions, save a few stragglers, and we're finally starting to see more "normal Red Room postings. And now there is going to be a whole new controversy and shitstorm because of this.

The better decision would have been to keep it open and let it take it's course. Unless Mewa wanted it to, that thread probably would've had the same lifespan and activity as the stinky east indian one.

Which was probably Mewa's motivation for posting it in the first place.
