http://www.nbcaugusta.com/news/georgia/48247087.html Once again a bear has found itself in Columbia County (where I live). This poor youngster is trapped between the Savanna River and a veritable gauntlet of subdivisions! It's so far eluded authorities by hunkering down in the wooded areas between neighborhoods. We all hope it finds it's way to a more "bear friendly" county before it gets hit by a car. All the roads in the county the bear must cross are 55 MPH freeways and main roads. :IMHO!: I was driving around the areas the bear has been spotted...it will be tough to find + tranquilize it. There are hundreds of small thickly wooded areas between the subdivisions...just enough woods to hide in.
Not unless I can shit a tranquilizer gun! This is the whole problem.... only the animal control people have them (makes sense). And this bear doesn't really have a "pattern" per se - it's like finding a needle in a haystack. He's been here for about two weeks now. He won't starve, because the blackberry crop is awesome this year. And I'm guessing flipping over a garbage can is a no-brainer too. Who knows? The bear just might start adapting to humans like the deer are, and never leave. If it makes it to Fort Gordon (a few miles away) it will have plenty of room. It's about the size of Manhattan in square milage, but the majority of the training areas are uninhabited for the most part.
