How about serb and croat war criminals too oldfella or are they are jobs program for prison officials in Netherlands kinda tough decision the type a money a high profile political prisoner can bring money.
Chop down the tree and burn it in a death camp. Do they have documented proof for the history of this tree, or is it a myth circulating around the town? I mean, how could the mayor be elected without knowing the story, assuming he's a proud and involved citizen?
Oh good God. You Europeans need to get lives, jobs, and above all methinks...laid. Only a eunich would spend his day obsessing over a tree.
Why kill a tree based on who planted it? Does the tree kill and oppress people? No? Then maybe there is too much emotionalism here. There should be no more or less outrage over this tree than any other in a similar circumstance.
Too much emotionalism? After what happened to Poland.... 1. from being divided up between Germany and Russia with both brutalizing them 2. from being totally invaded by Germany and being brutalized again 3. from having the Russians push back and go fighting all the way through Poland while brutalizing Polish people 4. to the Germans and Russians turning Poland into crap through battles and the war 5. to finally the Russians refusing to leave and setting up a Communist government to oppress the Polish people for decades... I think they have a little bit of a right to be emotional over something Hitler left behind in their country. I'm surprised they waited until now to discuss it. After the war I would have chopped that tree down myself if I was there.
Tamar, look at the average European poster here. Their emotions and white guilt (fuck, auto-generated guilt in general) is all they have.
Not polish. Just saying I can understand how many would feel emotion over the issue considering it was their homeland that was ripped up and their people who were killed.
The uproar didn't come from the "nazi haters". It came from the one's who want to keep the tree. Would there be an uproar if anyone else planted the tree? Or ..., just any tree happened to be in the way of a road. The problem isn't Nazi-hysteria, it's anti Nazi-hysteria.
I'm Polish and I'm saying on behalf of the Poles in this story, they're overreacting. Should we murder the Germans because they gave us Hitler? No. It's a tree, nothing more.
It's just a tree. On the other hand, it's just a tree. Chop it down, fashion it into little wooden swastikas, and sell them to those who want to burn one of the last vestiges of the Nazi regime. Use the money to plant a hundred more oak trees.
One does wonder about the mentality of people who comment about an article without actually reading said article.
