I thought the UK was getting easier on pot, but 14 years seems a bit excessive, especially when one can take a ferry boat ride for 10 hours and be in Amsterdam Ho-land.
Then one needs to take that 10 hour boat ride. If you know it's not legal in your own country, you can't bitch if you get caught. Every single person I know (black, white, Dem, Republican, etc) thinks it should be legalized + treated like alcohol - but it's not. So, until it is, go to a place where it is already legal.
If he was only growing 10 plants, he was no drug dealer. Sounds like he was growing for his own personal use.
The government does. And they are going to save you from your destructive pot growing and smoking habits by locking you in a cell for a few years next to murderers and rapists. Don't worry. You'll thank them later.
I would not disagree with this point, but for the part that says he was arrested with eight bags of pot in his car. I mean I'm no pothead, but if it was just for personal use, I'd think he'd just have one big, honkin' bag. Or are potheads like squirrels--they hide pot all over the place so if they can't find any they can survive a dry spell? Or is his short-term memory so bad that he keeps forgetting he has a bag in the car and bringing a new one out? I'm thinking the reason you have eight bags of pot in your car is if you are dealing.
Maybe he shares with his friends? Or just stores the finished product somewhere where Mom won't find it and was caught en-route? Honestly, unless he was caught making a sale it's just conjecture that he was dealing.
I remain conscious of the "intent to distribute" bullshit, but I'll divide it up sometimes. A small baggie of plant matter is easy to lose or get stolen, and it's nice to have a backup stash. But 8 bags? Yeah, he was either dealing or just divvying up a collective purchase.
I bag my weed up in different bags to keep the the different strains seperated but 8 does seem to indicate dealing. Not that there is anything wrong with that either.
Thats quite a severe penalty. I though Europe was supposed to be less draconian about this sort of thing.
The U.K. is still pretty strict. Dumb move on his part, what with his celebrity (and he would be one there more than here) and the U.K. media being what it is.
I don't think the article said how big the bags were. If he had 8 - 1oz bags, you might be onto something. If they were 8 nickle bags (1/4 oz), he could have been doing a little dealing, or he might very well have been splitting his stash up for whatever reasons. Either way, he doesn't deserve that kind of jail time. Legalize the stuff and use the cops to fight real crime.
I know someone who recently was pulled over drunk and with cocaine on him. He is a lawyer so it looks like he might be getting off a bit easier, but after that, a friend of mine (who has a card) and I have decided, that even for cannabis, if I were by myself and was pulled over with stuff; to just say that it was his, he was in my car earlier and left it there etc. Have the cops call if necessary. I don't know if it would work, but an interesting idea. It's usually not a good idea to carry much anyway though, and usually, if you're being pulled over, hopefully you can just swallow all the stuff you have before the cops get to your window. I wonder then if in that case, is it better to swallow with or without the plastic bag? Would everything be digested or would the plastic bag (and contents within) just pass through your system?
Goddamn it, can I have just one interest someone hasn't found a way to corrupt with snobbery? It's just a goddamned bag weed, for shit's sake. FUCK!
