Seems like the whole birther thing has died down a little. All of the loons have moved on to screaming about Obama's Secret Old Person Euthanization Panels.

Oddly enough, the end-of-life planning counseling provision that the wingnuts are throwing a fit about is lifted right out of the Republican 2003 Medicare act, only when the Republicans wrote and enacted the provision they limited it to paying for counseling for terminal patients. You know, the patients who actually would be most vulnerable if such legislation amounted to enacting "death panels." Seems nobody thought that death panels were actually established at the time.

So, in the grand scheme of right-wing craziness, which is crazier - the birther stuff or the death panel stuff? Have they had any other craziness to rival these two?

That's the wingnut talking point of the week: the Health insurance reform plans moving through Congress are going to establish "death panels" to coordinate the euthanization of the elderly and sick. Sarah Palin's been perhaps the leading promoter of that particular idiocy.

The Swift Boat Veterans bullshit about Kerry was up there. The Hillary killed Vince Foster stuff was just as crazy, as was pretty much everything related to the Whitewater investigation. The death panel stuff isn't half as crazy as Ronald Reagan's rambling attacks on Medicare when it was first under consideration back in the 60s. Joe McCarthy, wackaloon. This kind of crazy has been the Republican modus operandi for opposition for a very long time.

Maybe President Obama's birth certificate is fake, or maybe he was never born at all. If his birth can't be verified then I'm not taking his existence seriously anymore.

For all I know he's a hallucination borne of an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of underdone potato...

Except they didn't correct all the mistakes and added some new ones. Mombassa still wasn't in Kenya at the time. And Kenya wasn't called a protectorate. And it didn't use American style dating on its documents.

But, of course, all that is really besides the point, because the first and last instinct of anyone seeing a foreign Obama birth certificate should be "forgery" regardless of obvious errors.

Mombasa was in Zanzibar in 1961, not Kenya. Not a very masterful forgery, is it?
