With one or two notable exceptions, I've been changing residences at least once a year since I graduated from high school.

Just the deficit spending to date for this fiscal year amounts to $50,000 Johnny Cash for every man woman and child in the United States.

A family of four would have received $200,000. You think that would have paid off a couple of delinquent mortgages?

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

That's one of the things I'd have like to have seen in the UK.

Instead of printing billions to buy government debt, a one-off card preloaded with 10k given to everyone over 18 to boost the economy - if we were going to hit the printing presses anyway, might as well do it in a manner that'll give a quarter of growth.

Paying off our mortgages would have made a helluva lot more sense than any of the bailouts and Cash for Whatthefuckever programs we've had so far.

If I didn't have a mortgage, I could easily afford to buy a new car, appliances, furniture, home improvement, etc., etc.

Good... I could use both a new Computer Monitor (mines is over 10 years old), along with a new Kitchen stove (which is almost as old as my monitor)

Which would do nothing except raise prices. Without real growth accompanying new money, all you get is inflation.

I'd be very surprised if this wasn't done more with General Electric in mind.

We've got some deflation going on, plus inflation isn't a bad thing right now for the UK. Given our debt level, we're going to need to inflate some of it away.

Currently we're pretty much buying up our own debt by printing money, a situation I'm not expecting to end well.

Umm... It was one thing to drive my clunker in, now I have to haul my old washer to the store ? That might be more problematic.

And do they check to see if it runs like with my car ? Cause I don't know if Lowes actually has real washing machine hookups. Do I have to wait for it to run a whole cycle ?

That's what makes this plan diabolical. Everyone traded in their trucks and SUV's for econoboxes, so now there's only one way to get your fridge to the store.
