So, it's been since last Tuesday, and I've had two nights to correct my completely reversed sleeping schedule. Might as well start accepting the disappointment now.
Stagnating. Time to change it up again. Thinking of switching back from my "small circuit/super set" upper body lift to consecutive days of more intensive focus on fewer muscle groups, so that I can lift immediately before running stairs or doing the "Jeep drag."
7.13.09 45-50 minutes upper body lift (abs/chest/triceps/shoulders), followed by 30 laps. Feeling pretty damned run down now.
7.16.09 Exactly the same workout as 7/13 (abs/chest/triceps/shoulders + 30 laps), but I felt quite a bit better afterwards.
7.20.09 Lifted abs/chest/triceps/shoulders, followed by 35 laps. I didn't completely puss out on Friday, but nobody wanted to go do the jeep pull with me, so I lifted abs/biceps/back, then went mountain biking with some friends. First time on a bike in 6-7 years, and it was a fairly harsh trail. No wheel hopping from boulder to boulder or anything, but I got a bike seat rammed up my ass a few times until I remembered how to take obstacles. Butt bones are still pretty damned sore.
7.24.09 Abs/back/biceps, 20 laps. Gimme a fucking break, it's HOT. Also, there was another Abs/back/biceps lift on Tuesday, then an Abs/chest/triceps/shoulders yesterday. So, four times lifting and twice running this week. Couldn't get any jeep pulling going.
7.27.09 Abs/Chest/triceps/shoulders for just under an hour. 22 laps on the stairs. I think I'm running out of gas. Lifting first stretches that 4:00 snack a little too far. I could blame my weak-ass performance on that, or the fact that the little league season is evidently over and with it goes the portable outhouses (really needed to piss), but it's just as likely true that I'm getting sick of running stairs.
Back at it today. Camping trip disrupted my routine. Haven't run since last Monday. That alone would make it rough, but I'm also lifting right before, and we've got a 101 degree heat index at the moment. Yee haw.
Not that anyone cares, but I'm probably done doing this for the year. As it gets colder I'm gonna switch back to the cardio machines and working on stricking/grappling after lifting.
First of all, I care. Second of all, good job this year sticking with it. Third of all, what is stricking?
Striking. As in hitting things with your limbs. Heavy bags and body shields. Sue me for failing to catch one goddamned spelling error.
Whoa partner, I thought it was a type of lift I wasn't familiar with. Excuse me for being nice to you.
I'm gonna laugh when you break a femur. Seriously though, back in the day we did shit like that too. If the gyms where I live wouldn't be so pussified, I would actually go there. Used to be that we would use those body shield things and run into each other. Lots of fun. Usually cause I always won.
Always won against a heavy bag? My shins are pretty solid from running stairs and pounding down the calcium all summer.
