I'm sure this has already been talked about before, but I just want to reiterate how BAD ASS! Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are going to be. Both of these games are going to be EPIC!.. yes I am a nerd and yes.. i did just say epic. I have been waiting YEARS! for these games to come out and they don't even have a release date yet. WTF! is up with that. I don't know shit about making games but I am almost positive that they are taking more than their sweet ass time for marketing reasons only, not game development. Especially with SC2. The first game play video was posted years ago. Personally I am a way bigger fan of the Diablo series. Anyways, check out how bad ass these games are and join me in the agony that is waiting for them to come out. Diablo 3 : http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/?rhtml=y Starcraft 2 : http://www.starcraft2.com/
Yeah, I'm looking forward to both of these. I'm sure Diablo 3 will take up a large percentage of my free time
Haha. OH has been drooling over Starcraft 2 for like two years now. He has been playing Warcraft 3 daily to prepare. I really regret the day I dug out my keys so he could play it.
I, too, am looking forward to Diablo III more than Starcraft. Beatswork, if the wait is getting to you, I suggest going out and getting Dungeon Siege II + expansion. It is a good in-between game while waiting for Diablo III. The graphics are better than Diablo II, and it's pretty damn fun.
Just a week or so ago they added another character class to the D3 website. There will be MONKS!!!! I am pysched for D3 as well. I still play D2 off and on, even after all these years....
I got one of the first quad cores on the market, so I should be good to go for a few years yet. Still, Blizzard is a studio known to make games that don't have huge system requirements. Unless your PC is really old, they will probably make it so the majority of people with middle-end computers can play it.
I had to upgrade to play Civ IV and for some reason ever since the move, I have to open the sides and run a box fan to keep it from overheating.
Dungeon 2 70 bucks for this game! I havent even heard of it before. Any advice on where to get this for less.
Re: Dungeon 2 $70 is a rip off. It can be had on eBay for half that. I got it from memoryexpress.com on special for $5. (They were getting out of selling games, and had a fire sale.) I'd also recommend Neverwinter Nights 2. Same sort of game, but with less action, and the story is filled with mildly annoying characters. Still is a good in-between game while waiting for Diablo III.
Speaking of Diablo 3, I have heard that there will no longer be a network option to play this with your friends, and it will now all be done via Battle.net. Is there any way we can organize a Wordforge clan and play with each other? Would someone have to leave their computer on indefinitely to host it?
Been playing NWN2 recently, as a matter of fact. Ran into a bug that prevents you from advancing past a certain point in the story campaign.
Blizzard is a studio known for having gigantic development times. It's worth it. They do a fuck ton of play testing, basically. They pushed back the beta again (which was expected) and claim that the game is taking a little bit longer because of the new battle.net They got someone who did a lot on Xbox Live to work on battle.net! That's insane, and I can't wait to see it.
Same thing with SC2, this is an anti-piracy measure. However, everyone complained and now they are adding a feature that lets you play LAN games for faster latency and whatnot, but everyone will have to first "check in" with battle.net (at least for SC2 they are adding this). This is the same concept as the Half-Life 2 system. I could see why they might decide not to add it for D3 however, since they need to keep the game online to keep track of loot and whatnot. I could see them doing a single-player-character-only type LAN though, the way D2 handled it, along with an extra "phone home" to allow play. I imagine that they will do away with the "Open Battle.net" concept from D2. I wouldn't be surprised if this change was the reason for the delay in the SC2 release date.
The network code is fine, but it's not like we haven't had good online gaming networks for years prior (dreamcast games worked great on dial-up, WITH voice com in some games). Getting good latency isn't a hard problem for a broadband console in the least. The interface is pretty uh... not streamlined. It's really not bad but it's trying to be a store/social app/chat program designed for a console controller. It does a decent job with that problem. That type of interface for a computer however, would be a big fail. Also, a lot of the features are pointless fluff, which is the antithesis of streamlined. Key features that matter: - Server list & filter <- most important, XBL sucks at this! - Automatch <- XBL is good at this for many games - Friend list with invite/join <- XBL is decent Steam really blows XBL out of the water though. I'm really just at a loss for what they could improve for b.net besides better auto-matching (although wc3s was solid), and a general update to the visuals, which is the type of thing Blizzard can handle just fine as we've seen in the past. I'm guessing we'll be getting some crappy achievement system, and an attempt at yet another "social network" like The Steam Community. The key difference that they will probably make, which will be nice to have, is a more unified b.net that isn't so isolated by the game you happen to be playing at the moment. They also might add some sort of "i'm online but my game isn't open" type of thing, which could be nice for joining friends.
