I realized something yesterday about my posting. I enjoy it less and less, because I've diverged from what I used to enjoy. I used to enjoy posting because it allowed me to learn and to bounce my opinions off of other people. It allowed me to better myself. The last few years haven't been about that. Sure, I've still learned things, but it's become combative. It's no longer a pleasure for me. I get enough conflict and competition in business to last a lifetime. Further, "proving" something on the internet is pointless. No one ever radically changes their opinions in short periods of time, though I have seen it happen over multi-year periods. I want to post to enjoy again. I basically enjoy a few forums here: tech room, green room, blue room, Camp Wordforge, Media Central, and Press Start. I enjoy the Red Room, but the trolling loses its fun after a certain point. The Social has evolved. Wordforge is part of an internet format that some say is archaic, and yet I enjoy BBS's like Wordforge every bit as much as I enjoy Facebook. Why do you enjoy BBS's? Why do you continue to post at them? And what do you dislike about them?
I get to be combative with guys with Jack Bauer avatars until they wear down, and get all morbid, and morose.
Ture - since all my friends either a) went crazy; b) moved to other states; c) had kids and are too busy; or d) all of the above, we have no actual social life any more. My virtual friends around the net are all the social contact I have these days.
