You think Obama would have learned from his threatening his fat daughters with deadlines to stop eating so fucking much that if you don't follow through, no one will take you seriously.

The new approach of practically begging them to come to the table will surely solve this situation. :hurr:

We could bring Iran to its knees within 24 hours. We could bomb the shit out of anything that even looked like a research facility and keep on looking for targets and never put a boot on the ground. We could vaporize their armed forces in probably less time than it takes to play the superbowl. We need to stop with failed diplomacy. This is the bunch that held our Embassy folks hostage for 444 days. Iran better thank Allah that I ain't in charge or I would end them as a people if I had to, but I would stop the bullshit.

Yeah, well I got plans for Russia too. They ain't got the same shit they had back in the 80s. They would have to try and nuke us if anything and we would win.

Ah, but His Defense Secretary, Gates, says we can still come up with some sanctions or something. He's not exactly sure what, but something that'll put pressure on the Iranian government without causing any adverse effects to the populace.
And for anyone who, during the '08 elections said " What's the worst Obama could fuck things up if we elect him?" there you go: A nuclear-armed theocracy that hates the United States and is the #1 sponsor of terrorism in the world. :marathon:

More "shock & awe" bravado by a testosterone-addled couch warrior? :jayzus:

The real danger here is warhawks who would lead us into neverending conflict based on the delusional belief that we're so superior that we can "vaporize" the enemy.

Sounds to me like EP has once again been hitting the bottle hard.

Can't go back to the moon...

Scared of Iran and will stand idly by while they build nukes...

This turd Hussein is truly a fucking fifth columnist. I don't think any president in history has embarked on a program to sell the US down the river with quite the degree of energy as this one has.

An extremist Islamic regime, known to support terrorists, in the heart of one of the most strategically important regions on Earth...

...has just been given carte blanche to develop nuclear weapons.

Perhaps I'll be wrong (and I actually hope I am), but I get the distinct feeling this will be one of those moments in history that people later look back on and ask "What the fuck were you thinking?"

Gates is going to have to jet off to Moscow and Beijing and start sucking some dick. Russia may start to publically grow weary of Iran, but who knows internally.

Short of a nuclear explosion, China's not going to waver.

We'd better seriously start looking at ways to defend against EMP attack. I don't worry about a nuke going off over NYC, Washington DC, or Tel Aviv anymore. I worry about a single nuke going off about 200 NM over the top of Salina, KS.

It's not just Iran. Any nuclear-capable power has the power to end this country with a single warhead, if they can deliver it sucessfully to high altitude over the lower 48. Israel has need to be worried about Iran; the US, maybe not so much as we still have a strategic deterrent in the form of the SSBN fleet.

But the nuke genie has been out of the bottle for some time now. We ain't ever stuffing it back in no matter how hard we try.

And we've been putzing around in Iraq for nearing 7 years...and they had no nuclear capabilities. How many lives lost? And how much money have we sunk into that rat hole? And now we want to start a 3rd front? Christ.

If you really want to see lives lost, wait until a nuke goes off somewhere in the Middle East. You'll have 50-100,000 people dead instantly and many, many more in the region-wide war that will follow.

You don't give up on the important things just because they're difficult.

It's one of the major reasons I was opposed to the invasion of Iraq. Saddam was no serious threat to anybody. His military capability was seriously compromised in the Gulf War and any smackdowns he needed could have been handled with simple air superiority. We didn't have to put boots on the ground.

Instead, we tied up a significant amount of our military in Iraq, when a good portion of that was needed in Afghanistan to capture bin Laden, who actually was a significant threat.

We hung Saddam, but we destabilized Iraq and created an obligation to stay there and try to straighten things out, and bin Laden got away.

Now Iran is presenting a real, significant threat, but our military resources are still tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan and the economy's too deep in the shitter to take on a 3rd front.

I'd also point out that after years and years of promising "serious consequences" to Iran for developing nuclear weapons, it now looks like nobody's going to do much of anything.

What little credibility the UN had left is now gone, and Obama's rapidly squandering ours...

How seriously do you think the next guy who gets promised "serious consequences" is going to take that threat?

I'm not all that worried about it anymore. It's mostly Israel's problem anyway. Plus, there's some hope that Islamist government might be on it's way out in Iran in the next decade or two.

Yeah, Bush's fault. He's the man the right won't hold accountable for anything. And this talk of nukes is the same scare-mongering that was used 7-8 years ago. Have we learned nothing?

Do I want any Middle Eastern country to have nukes? Fuck no. But, what are we going to do? Keep conquering the ME, country by country (which will create generations of new terrorists BTW)? Where are we going to find troops for something like that? And does that still negate the possibility of these loons getting a hold of a nuke?

Or do we just "nuke the site from orbit, just to be sure"?

And then are we safe from a reprisal if we did that?

America's been playing a pretty reactive game.

Iran knows the US won't do anything to stop them under an Obama administration. Heck, even the people here in the US don't take Obama too seriously (as he has come across as somewhat indecisive in the last year)....so why would the rest of the world?

Meanwhile....here is how another leader we could have had might have played the poker game with Iran....
