Possible the scariest film I've ever seen. Shot low budget in Blair-Witch style, a young couple have been hearing sounds in the night and so buy a camera to record them and their investigations. I won't tell you more but go see it...
I've been wanting to go see that but I haven't been able to convince anyone to go with me. Maybe soon... It does sound like a great movie. I enjoyed that shaky camera style with Blair Witch...makes it seem more real, ya know?
The camera isn't so shaky in this film, but it's much more scary. Here's the bottom line..... you know Ghost Hunters/Ghost Academy etc. with people yelling "dude! Did you feel that cold chill?" but you never actually see anything real? Imagine how scared you would be if it was no doubt really happening? I loved the movie myself. The younger crowd think it's corny....go figure!
I caught it a month or so back. Pretty good scares and very well made for such a low budget film. Like Blair Witch, though, it's a one-time deal: because it's 95% suspense build-up, you won't get the same chills watching it a second time.
I keep seeing comparisons to Blair Witch and it's kind of a turn off. Is the camera as shaky as it was in BW? Did those of you who liked Paranormal Activity also like BW?
The camera is pretty stationary for much of PA; in fact, during most of the really scary parts, it's locked down. There is the inevitable shaky cam effect as the camera gets carried through the house on many occasions. I thought BWP was absolutely brilliant and (no spoilers) though the endings of both are meant to horrify/creep you out, I found BWP's to be more effective by virtue of its suggestiveness. PA is much more explicit what happens in the end. I would rank BWP as excellent and PA as very good in terms of what they're trying to accomplish. I'd say the suspense build-up is better in BWP, but more shocking things appear on camera in PA.
If it's Blair Witchy, I'll give it a miss as I found that less a movie and more an endless source of comedy material.
Alex (my niece) and I just watch PW and........HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! I've never been so scared by a movie in my entire life....I liked the alternate ending better tho. I'm going to be up all night, cause well...i'm still freaking scared so I ain't sleeping anytime in the near future.
I thought PA was just OK. The Blair Witch Project was more creppy, IMHO. I've played F.E.A.R. 2 and was thinking of giving it another spin soon. I felt that it was a brilliant and unique combination of the first person shooter game with the horror movie/game setting. That game actually made the hair on the back of my neck stand up in several places. The interactivity of video games really amplifies things... because you are in control of the character, you sometimes forget that you are in the safety of your own living room. Awesome game!!
I stepped into this film for thirty seconds at my theatre. The camera was fixed on an empty living room. Nothing was happening, but a heavy, vamping sound was rising. I ran out. That was enough to make me not want to watch this film.
I watch PA a few weeks ago. It was ok but I was more annoyed at the typical scary movie bad decision making by the main characters. The guy in particular. "Babe I've got this under control" ...really? You've got something supernatural that you can't do anything to fight under control?
I saw Blair Witch in the theater. I never got the motion sickness everyone whined about, but I wasn't really all that impressed by the movie. Ironically I liked the fake documentaries about the Blair Witch leading up to the movie a lot better than the actual movie. It's a good game, but it's almost too bad that you played the second game first. The original has some really creepy moments, and one hell of a fucked up story to tell. The AI is pretty good, too, and will give you a pretty good fight. The expansion packs are okay, too, though I actually like Perseus Mandate better than Extraction Point. Oh, speaking of, if you liked FEAR 2, it also has an expansion pack, too, where you play one of the replicas.
You know... after I played FEAR 2, I ran out and picked up FEAR (for $15!!). Obviously, the graphics were inferior to it's sequel and I hate to admit that I'm that shallow, but it seems so. It's been sitting on my shelf for months and all I've done is played the first level. The funny thing is that if I played FEAR first as you stated, I know I would love it as well. This weekend, I just have to resolve to jump into FEAR with both feet. I know once I get going, the graphics won't even matter to me.
It picks up more after you get to the water treatment plant, and the creepiness factor gets cranked up a few more notches too. The biggest problem with the first game is a lack of imagination for the maps. To put it another way, you'll probably have had enough with office buildings and run-down ghettos by the time you get done. The expansion packs tried to change that up a bit, but there is still quite a bit that looks familiar, if you know what I mean.
I went and saw PA in theaters. All I got out of it was an urge to smoke during the movie, and take a leak as soon as it was over. I want that hour and a half of my life back.
I think it all comes down to what scares you personally. Me, i'm scared to death of demons and posession...so thats why it scared me so bad
Yep, that he had everything under control. Dumbass. To be fair though, if scary movie characters made smart choices, the average scary movie would only be about ten minutes long, including the credits!
