Yes, quite clearly. I posted the fucking thing and I know why.

My problem with you is that you think this is an automatic extension of UHC. When it isn't, it's just your twisted opinion that it is.

    It is!

When you give the government control of your health care you give them the right to dictate to you what you will and will not do.

Smoking is one of those things.

Then how come just as many dangerous things are illegal in the US as here?

Here you can drink from the age of 18, what is it over there in your socialist paradise.... 21?

Here employers almost never drug test employees,... in fact bringing in something like that would cause mass uproar,... its quite popular over there isnt it?

Can we just be clear, for your benefit.

This is not a 2+2=4 scenario. What you are stating is not a fact. The NHS was not built on the assumption that you can have healthcare but you have to do what you're told with your health.

The only areas where smoking can be legitimately restricted are those that are publicly-funded. Private property should never enter into consideration, because the owner has every right to dictate how it is used, while you are not forced to enter and have no inherent right of access. This applies to homes, businesses, and cars.

    I like the Portuguese system.
When every other country in Europe was banning smoking in all indoor public places they came up with a much smarter method.
You could ither choose to be 'smoking' 'non smoking' or 'both' :techman:

Well it's obvious to all but the stupidest of posters that me and Dan are not on the same page in regards to his retardation over smoking and UHC but I'm not seeing your point here.

I suspect many others won't either unless you elaborate on it. :marathon:

If smoking bans have come about because of UHC, then how come places with no UHC have smoking bans (Switzerland for instance)?

Smoking bans have nothing to do with UHC, and all to do with appeasing people who are stupid enough to want them.

For the children? People I grew up in the sixties/seventies. All parents + adults smoked in cars, stores, restaurants, etc. Are our asthma rates higher than today's kids? Hmmmm.......

I think the prevalence of asthma, allegies and many of the other ailments that seem to be increasing exponentialy is down to children no longer being allowed to interact with bacteria.
'Bleach mothers' cleaning every fucking surface until its lifeless is producing children with fuckalll immune system.

Let em play in crap, eat things they found on the ground and go a few days without washing properly.

Which is the premise for the RCP calling for this ban - to reduce health issues in children inhaling passive smoke.

If you accept the logic for the original smoking ban, then you really ought to accept it for this - as it's the exact same rationale.

Of course, as Elwood said, making this law is one thing, enforcing it is quite another. Hopefully sense will be seen.

Yeah, don't smoke around kids. I can see that.

I can also see you keeping your fucking kids away from me if you don't like my smoke.

Um, no. Because I'm not sure how many passive smoking studies effectively suggest that smoking while someone IS NOT PRESENT is dangerous.

Also, clearly there is a difference between the public office and the private car.

Umm, yes. Here's a starting point.

And yes, there is a difference between the public office and the private car, but such distinctions are already blurred with rules extending from the law - such as banning foster carers from smoking and if you're smoking in your own taxi with no one in it, you are breaking the law.

I do doubt this will become law - were it a group like ASH, who are one of the 'charities' who receive government funding, then this would likely be the usual Labour trick of having something insane suggested so that the eventual law, no matter how potty on its own, looks reasonable in comparison to the original suggestion.

Some have done studies on this among African kids, and this kind of thing does boost the immune system. More fuel to my theory that if the world goes to shit, the people living simply and harshly will come out on top.

Long way away. Advice isn't even issued on third hand smoke for newborn babies. So I'm not sure how we jump to saving everyone with a private car ban...

Man, tobacco smokers have it good. They are worried about smoking in cars and restaurants. Just be glad that your smoke of choice is legal and easily available, it must be awesome.
