What happen to separation of church and state Nancy?...you guys get all riled up if the church gets involved in the abortion debate and now you want them to carry the water for your pro-illegal immigration plans.

I must have missed the part where Jesus [pronounced Gee-Zus and not Hey Zeus] mentioned illegal aliens getting a fair break.

Lovely. While I do, indeed, think that Jesus is concerned with how we treat the poor and less fortunate among us, I'm really offended that a politician would try to tell a church how they should "live the gospel".

Wow. The same way the communists infested the church with the misleading "social justice" mindset, Nanci Pelosi is infesting it with "immigration reform."

Bullshit, Bullshit, Bullshit. The only thing Pelosi and religious ministers are going to see eye to eye on is that there is a Sun and a Moon. I can't seriously believe any minister would be seen within 30 feet of Nancy Pelosi.

You must have forgotten what's his name - Jesse Jackson. The guy who calls himself Reverend, never went to seminary (as far as I can find out) or ever had a church.

Isn't it a bit ironic that the very people who denounced the church for its stand on abortion and other issues, got rid of the National Day of Prayer, suddenly are begging for the church's help to fix THEIR screwup?

It's really quite simple. The vast majority of people in general are incredibly naive. And many of of those same people vote--they are true believers that the GOP or the DNC can or will HELP them.

Okay, so members of the Catholic hierarchy tell Pelosi they'd like to see something happen on immigration reform; Pelosi says, in effect, but much more politely "Great! Get off your fat asses and do something about it that will help me make it happen!;" and this reflects badly on her how exactly?

I agree, sort of. I think that there are a lot of lazy people around as well, who don't want to be bothered to think, and/or act beyond their own comfort zones. So long as the actions of the government don't push them out of that comfort zone, there's no need to worry, or, more importantly, take a stand or get involved.

Retard, did you read the part where she wants them to preach it from the pulpit? Under other circumstances, you'd be in here blathering at length about some priest stumping during the homily, and asking for the head of the politician who asked them to do it.

    Now it's a good thing?

I assure you no self-respecting and/or worshiping Christian (Catholic OR Protestant) would ever speak more than two lines to Nancy Pelosi. And those two lines would go something like this: Madam, you are aiding and abetting the destruction of faith in God. May He have mercy on your soul when your day of judgment arrives. She can say whatever she wants to the Christian community; we'll never give her a thought or cent more than her Congress taxes from us.

Because, again, someone else is doing her job for her.

Pretty telling when the Speaker of the House doesn't know that Preachers stumping from the pulpit about politics is grounds for a church to lose their tax exemption status.

Of course given how greedy this administration is, maybe that's part of the point...lure the wealthy Catholic Church into losing tax exempt status so they can get their cut. :marathon:

To repeat myself, from another thread:

I think I have made it clear enough over the years that I am fairly liberal where immigration reform is concerned. Certainly way out of line with most of the conservatives on Wordforge.

But I don't want religion of any kind used as a tool for political change! If I was a pastor, I would not want to use my Sunday sermons for any purpose other than to instruct and encourage those present in what the Bible teaches about what it means to follow Jesus Christ and choose continually for God really to be God in our lives. That is what my spirituality is about, not campaigning for immigration reform.

    Clear enough, Ms. Pelosi?

The same hierarchy that suppresses the rights of homosexuals? The same hierarchy that covers up the raping of children? Pelosi would pander to such as these for her own political benefit. Preach your hate but don't forget to encourage immigration reform and remember "Vote Democrat!". Your lack of principle is a symptom of the disease that eats away at the heart of this country.

There's a difference between taking a stance on social issues and supporting one candidate or party over another.

One is a valid part of the churches mission, the other isn't, or at least shouldn't be.

One thing to discuss and take a stand on social issues; it's another to support a bill in Congress.

And what do you want to bet that the churches that DO support Nancy suddenly find themselves scrutinized by the IRS and lose their tax exemption - after they've done her dirty work?

No, she has no right to beg an organization that she has done everything to ruin to help her - especially since she's been dragging her ass to get the job done.

It's pretty easy to do one without explicitly doing the other.

    See above.

    Who's begging?

    And "everything to ruin?" Link?

It follows, then, that you have no issue with churches pressing for a constitutional amendment opposing gay marriage, selling that to parishioners from the pulpit.

    Why the hate?
