Anyone who believes transporting the Jews back to Europe will solve the Middle east crisis missies the point...radical followers of Islam will still seek them and other non-Muslims out to kill for the glory of Allah..and they will be backed by the Arab governments who need the Jews as scapegoats for the failure of their governments in dealing with the needs of their people,

There are plenty of Jews in Europe right now, yet I don't hear about radical Muslims killing them there for the glory of Allah.

    Is this another "MSM" conspiracy?

Helen Thomas: "Jews go back to Germany"

Note the choice of the word "transporting." It implies a passive, involuntary relocation of a people from one place to another, as if the people themselves have no say in the matter.

This is and has always been one of the fundamental disconnects in the way the Gentile world views the "Jewish problem."

Wow, you are really fucking stupid. Try reading up on anti-semitic attacks in France for example. Jews there live under constant threat from Muslims and others. Do they have to leave France too?

Ever hear of the bombings in Argentina?

Thinking on the OP, this fucking goat-troll doesn't even know her history. There was not and never has been a Palestinian people who lived in Israel. Historically, the land has devolved from Jews through various conquerers to the Turks, and the British, then the Jews again. She needs to stick her head in a chipper, hell, it could only help her looks.

Helen Thomas: "Jews go back to Germany"

Which suggests that there was no one living on that land in 1948, just a British military presence overseeing an empty desert. Not as easy to make that claim in the 20th century as it was with native populations in North America a few centuries earlier.

Are you as well informed about anti-Semitic attacks in the U.S.?

It's silly and tragically naive to think that the Israelis, having established a homeland, are simply going to walk away from it. It's pointless to debate the rightness or wrongness of their possession of the land because it's completely irrelevent: the Israelis are there to stay.

The historical claims and grievances have to be set aside if there is to be a meaningful peace in the Middle East. Israel is a well-established fact; the Palestinians need to acknowledge this and, if not respect, at least tolerate Israel's existence. The Palestinians should have a functioning, coherent state when all is said and done; the Israelis need to acknowledge this and be a little forthcoming with some territory they've taken in war.

But this tribal nonsense--"I must kill you because you took something from my great-grandfather 60 years ago"--has to go.

Helen Thomas: "Jews go back to Germany"

Yup. Helen Mary Manning O'Dell. She was on the student council and sang alto in the glee club. Married a fireman, IIRC, and had five kids. Lovely person.

Well, if it can work in Northern Ireland, it can work anywhere.

Grassroots movement, both in Israel and here. There are numerous moderates among the Palestinians...they're ignored by the American media because they're not as controversial as Hamas. A large proportion of young Israelis are fed up with the situation, particularly since mandatory military service puts many of them on the firing line. And there's an organization called Living Room Dialogues in the U.S. that is exactly what the name implies...a Jewish couple who've invited Arab and Jewish families in their area to sit with them, have coffee, and talk about their concerns. They've been doing this since 1992.

It'll take time, and nonsense like the blockade only sets it back.

I dunno. You can't really FORCE people to change their minds, only pummel them into submitting (which isn't applicable here).

You can't really reason with someone whose entire outlook is, well, unreasonable. It sounds to me like many Palestinians are willing to live in squallor and humiliation today if the possibility of pushing the Israelis into the sea lives on for another generation.

Holding out for some idealized, imagined "destiny," instead of making the most of what you can now? Unreasonable.

No dumbass, there were people there, including many Jews. The Arabs living there were not a separate nationality from the surrounding Arab lands. However, you are correct it was a wasteland of desert prior to 1948 when the Jews took over and made the land bloom and fertile.

Why yes, I am. Your point, other than the tip of your head?

Point of order: If it was 60 years ago, that wasn't your great, great grandfather.

My great grandmother's still alive, at 95 years old. 60 years ago, my great great grandparents were certainly alive.
I'm 26, making me -34 60 years ago. I'm certain that most other members are in negative years 60 years ago.

    I'm sorry, you were saying?

    Yes, Herzl's Zionists. Very good.

Kind of like there were people living in the Americas before the white man got here. Exactly.

Matthew 7:5. Nothing like a little misdirection ("Oh, oh, look what they're doing in France and Argentina!!!") in an effort to take the high ground. Clean up your own backyard first. If there were no anti-Semitism, Jews could live anywhere, just like Gentiles.

You're one of those "If we give them their own country, they won't have to live on our block" types, aren't you?

On the plus side, Obama can always hire her for a Middle Eastern policy advisor. She seems to be in synch with the rest of them.

Wow, a 50 year career ended in disgrace because of anti-semetic remarks that were probably ingrained into her by her Lebanese upbringing.

Maybe she could play penuckle with Dan Rather in the journalists Hall o' Shame.

I realize many Americans are abysmally ignorant of geography, but Troy was never considered part of Palestine, or vice versa. :jayzus:

There's also no material evidence that Helen actually existed.

Re: Helen Thomas: "Jews go back to Germany"

Well, no direct evidence. The Iliad was probably a centuries old tale told in song by the time Homer wrote it down, but some of its traditions may very well have some basis in fact.

Homer's poem does suggest some things we now take as historical fact: We know that there was a Troy and that it was sacked and burned in the Bronze Age around the time of the Trojan War. Although we don't have any real evidence for Agamemmnon, Mycenae was very powerful in the years he is thought to have existed. We know Greek-speaking peoples of the time were raiding the Mediterranean (a la the Vikings) by evidence found in Egypt and the Middle East; the Philistines of the Bible were Greek.

Who's to say that the old tradition of a war being fought over a woman (or, at least, ostensibly over a woman) isn't true?

A history teacher of mine once said that we shouldn't too quickly dismiss old traditions; after all, old traditions had to get started somehow...
