What the fuck you think he's talking about here? [yt=This Land]yR61uTGTFoM&feature=player_embedded[/yt] First, long before America was an idea....all those people he lists off were not "sharing the land" - they were killing each other for it! Second, the "shared values" he mentions were in large part things he has no truck with in his own political worldview Third - how the fuck can you have "Mexicans" before you have a Mexico? What you had were Indians, and Spaniards fucking up their world - all the people in that room speak a language derivative of that of their European oppressors. Fifth - when we "eventually came together" it was, ya know, pretty much entirely BRITISH people who came together. We don't have french quebec or Spanish Mexico in the original colonies (sure there are scattered pockets of Dutch and others but a very small percentage in a BRITISH colony. How did we get a bunch of Spanish territory? We killed people for it! There was no day when Spanish Florida (for instance) said "you know, i'd love me some of those "common ideals" too" Sixth - whats with the long lip biting pause before he goes off-script (according to the white house) and edits out "by our Creator" from the Deceleration. sorta looks like malice aforethought don't it?
I don't know if I see the problem with his remarks in this video? Sure, it's a bit Hallmark card rambling, like most of his speeches, but doesn't seem particularly inflammatory.
Sounds about right. Leaving "endowed by their Creator" out is no big deal. He had already quoted the "All men are created equal" part, and if they are created, that clearly implies a creator. So you can't argue he is trying to avoid the creationist philosphy of the Declaration of Independence. And it's pretty obvious that, by that point, he was no longer attempting to quote the entire preambule, but simply bring out some of its salient points. As for his immense liberties with history, that's pretty much par for the course. It was political propaganda, not a history course. There are plenty of things about Obama to criticize, but this speech is not one of them, IMO. Not even a blip on the "Obama is a terrible president" radar.
We didn't kill Spanish people for land. We bought the land from them. Now we did kill the newly created "Mexicans" over a land dispute. Then we still paid them for the land.
I wasn't thinking so much about what he left out - just puzzled by the long "I just took nasty medicine" expression/pause before he got to it...and a bit curious that someone so married to the telepropmoter chose that particular spot to ad-lib. As for the rest - I'm not exactly calling for impeachment here - just taking a chance to dig at him a bit.
No, for example, if you washed your lily ass to gleaming, it'd be an immediate improvement upon the environment.
Meh, Obama was already a disappointment and a failure. It's not like anyone was expecting him to suddenly become competent or inspiring (except people who bought into the "hope and change" bullshit). Let me know when he makes a speech that doesn't blame America, whitey or CEO's for all the world's evils. Then I'll be surprised.
It's a good thing Bush hadn't somehow scored another four years - people would hate Obama even more for what he had no control over!
Was the incoherence purposeful or do you just have a natural gift? By the way - your sig is both far too big and entirely obtuse.
Aren't you being a little hard on the guy? The speech sounded good, that is what is important. Truth and reality are not important.
