    Reuters:

A Libyan war plane has crashed outside Benghazi after the crew ejected themselves from their seats.

The crew refused to follow orders in bombing the city, and instead allowed the plane to crash.

    Heh.

Gadaffi says that he wishes to die as a martyr. It appears that he will get his wish.

    Every man's death diminishes me.

...OK, I knew I couldn't say that with a straight face...

If the pilots used their heads they would strafe Gadaffi and then fly to Malta.

Ejecting over the desert is just a waste.

    link

A link, apparently there are some workers who have taken helicopters out of the country, too. This is getting good.

But, my skeptical meter bumped on reading this. One? Wouldn't a seriously deranged leader have ordered the entire military out to put down uprisings?

    I want more.

Yeah, because he's standing on the roof waving as they fly over.

Though the bit about Malta makes sense.

Not if it draws global attention to the situation.

Looking worse and worse for the dictator:

This caught my attention, since I have often flown over Benghazi, which is on the direct line between Paris and the capital of Madagascar. The rest of the places are just names I've seen on maps, but I've looked at Benghazi several times, from about 6 miles in the air.

Hope things work out for the Libyans. Over 600 dead and the count is still rising. Can't say I'll feel any particular sorrow when Kadhafi finally flees the country. (Despite his claims, I don't think he'll let himself die a martyr. That's just "tough guy" talk, but he must be looking anxiously at various options right now.)

Too bad we don't have Billy Carter around to go negotiate with him...

If there's any justice his bullet-ridden body will be dragged through the streets and used as a pinata.

^Unfortunately, that would make him a "martyr."

Much better if he and Mubarak and the rest of them pull an Idi Amin and spend the rest of their lives in luxurious exile on the Saudis' dime...

Umm....to whom? He's not an islamic fundie, and the rest of the world thinks he's batshit insane?

I don't think many people would loose any sleep if he were drawn and quartered in the local town square.

The people currently doing the killing for him might be willing to stage a counter-revolution with him as their tragic hero.

Now, that's one regime that has to go.

I don't believe in "evil", but if I did, I'd say that's about the most evil leadership in the entire fucking world.

I'll just repost my Gadaffi theory here.

It's not as silly as it sounds. Well. OK, it is.

I dunno. There were some reports a few years back that black hair dye - particularly cheap black hair dye - contained dangerous amounts of lead that could lead to brain cancer. Maybe it's eaten his brain.

In the past few hours, in addition to wielding his flyswatter, he's also (A) accused those opposing him of being on hallucinogens and (B) blamed the entire thing on al Qaeda.

Maybe he has a future writing for the Enquirer...

The people currently killing for him are foreign mercenaries (mostly? entirely? I'm not sure), who I doubt would particularly care to make him a martyr as he would no longer be paying them.

Still, there's a perception that he does still have some loyal followers, if only because he's their meal-ticket:

This suggests there will be a lot more people dead before this is over.

On another note... does anyone really think that Al Jazeera does not perform a valuable public service with its reportings from these scenes?

It seems they're almost always right there in the action when these events are concerned, and while their "opinionated" pieces are clearly "swayed", their reporting seems quite balanced.

This is absolutely treasonous; I hope dehydration gets them. Has the entire region of North Africa gone fucking mad?
