I wrote this as a PM originally, but either you didn't get it or you ignored how totally awesome it was. Since it is so totally awesome, I wanted to share that awesomeness here in the Gray Room, so I hope you don't mind if I share how you could give me the perfect Christmas present.
I"m sure T'Bonz will get around to deciding whether to answer your plea after she takes care of some high priority things like making that last minute fruit cake and making sure Frontline doesn't run through the briefing room naked...
We're like the Hotel California. Everyone wants back in. :/ It's not right or wrong. It was a pattern of behavior, making trouble, that you refused to change. It's my belief that you would come back and do exactly the same, as you don't think that YOU ever did anything wrong (in spite of your pretty words) but that some of the other fans are too sensitive to survive. With established posters, as you were, I don't generally pull the trigger until long after I should. I give chance after chance. In your case, I saw zero desire to modify the behaviors and I don't think that has changed.
Wouldn't that be "wrong" then? Well, considering what actually happened, what with them trolling me, and me posting humorous macros in response. As for this "pattern" you speak of, I feel it's greatly exaggerated. Let's also keep in mind that the series and movie forums were hardly my only frequented areas, and I did plenty of other posting that didn't involve butthurt Abrams Trek fans. Let's also keep in mind that plenty of our private conversations showed pretty clearly that I'm hardly the unreasonable troll you apparently have come to the conclusion that I am. So really, how exactly am I a threat to TrekBBS? Are a few jokes and image macros posted in response to some trolling really all that harmful? And what behavior would that be again? The puppy wants to know.
Oh, for fuck sakes. You're never going to get back in if you keep insisting you never did anything wrong. What you do is tell them they're absolutely right, say you're sorry, and promise it'll never happen again. Until it does. Haven't you ever had a girlfriend?
I did all that already. Didn't you read the part in the beginning where I said I was wrong and denied that what actually happened, happened?
As someone booted by T'Bonz on more than one occasion, let me advise you: she'll let you back in after some water has passed under the bridge. Give it time.
Okay T'Bonz, I totally admit that I was wrong. I don't know what I did that was wrong or what was wrong about it, but I still admit that it was all my fault. Please let me back in? You know the make-up sex will be worth it.
Has that approach ever worked for you in any circumstance? Not just in something as trivial as this but in a real life application?
There's one way round this. Install an ignore function, and when they come whining to you about "X has said Y and it made me cry", you demand they put it on & shut up. Banning should be left to people wanting to damage the workings of a board, or attempting to troll with real life info. So what if a bunch of nerds get upset? Nearly everyone on TrekBBS is an adult, right?
Oh noes! Someone is criticizing STXI and all the trolls in that forum are whining about it! Quick, ban him! Criticizing STXI is a threat to the board! Come on, T'Bonz, you know you have to cave to the power of moe eventually. Just look into those big wobbly eyes.
Oh, fer cryin' out loud, T'Bonz, let him back in. Put him on probation if you want to, and bounce him again if he violates it, but you've let others in time and again. Besides, if he makes that jpeg any bigger, it'll crash the internets...
He used up all my patience ages ago. Plus - it's my opinion that he would resume doing exactly what he did and I'm not going there again. So no.
I don't think the problem is with whether or not you like Abrams Trek and say so. If your behavior over there is like your behavior here, it is the fact that you are so agressive and insulting to those who do like it. You and Dayton do not seem to be willing to let others have an opinion you don't share. IDIC does not seem to have made it into your mindset.
Over here I'm more free to do that, but over there I wasn't nearly aggressive about it. I was the one who was actually getting trolled, along with anyone else who dared say they didn't like that movie. Even a couple of mods joined in on it. The thing I did that pissed everyone off was, rather than act like the buttburt nerd like they wanted me to, I cracked jokes, turned their trolls back around on them, and posted image macros like this: The horror....
