There are probably a lot of lurkers. I know I lurk a lot more than I used to, namely because I already know the opinions of the people who are arguing on any given topic. I think if their account has visited within the past couple of weeks, they are considered "active" so to speak. Just not active and posting. I agree there are probably less than 150 active members.
Thank you. He is so gorgeous. I wanted some so badly that I bought one of his dildo molds. Ohhhhhhhhh, he's so big...........:dildo:
It should be taken into consideration that there might be more reasons for the decline of this website than mere conflicting personalities. There are many, many more sites now that can occupy a web surfer's time than existed when this board was founded. There is Facebook, for example, which for the individual offers far more real life relevance and better games. There are many, many more political discussion areas, many running on (arguably) more advanced platforms, and with a much larger and therefore more diverse mix of members. Wordforge may be facing the same difficulties encountered by the "mom and pop" shop attempting to compete with Wal-Mart; i.e., there is now far more powerful competition. I know that Delphiforums has suffered a great decline because of this factor.
Valid points, but I'd suggest that has caused a plateau, not a decline. "Decline" is only applicable for those who argue that lack of growth is by definition decline. I do think you make a good case for why the 'forge is unlikely to EVER "grow" up even to several hundred relatively active posters - but i don't define that as decline.
Those who voted no: ummm...You aren't happy here? Yet you're viewing threads and voting? Sounds like a personal problem to me.
Unhappiness with WF is not a personal problem. Having to get your third abortion because you can't figure out what a condom is - that's a personal problem.
OMG, if this place turns into Walmart where everyone is just a fn number I'm outta here. I'll take a small cocktail lounge over a dance hall where I have to stop and think "who the hell are all these again?" any time!!!!
Fair enough but I think the biggest thing is the board has become too one-sided (check out the political affiliation poll thread). It gets old quick (for both sides of an issue) if 90% of the people agree.
I'm an absolute monarchist; I've got beef with the right and the left. Fight with me. Hell, we could have a Beck vs Board day every week (that I'm available that is).
So the issue isn't that there is no opposition. Beck vs Board isn't fun. More fun is when the #s on each side are more equal.
^ That's right. And that's why we need a lot more theists. That would balance the board out more and make the "God doesn't exist and those who think he does are deluded" threads more interesting.
Except the poll doesn't reflect that. 18 libertarian 15 conservative or leaning 19 moderate and leftward that's more balance than you find in the general population and i dare say more balance than you find on 90% of the other forums on the net. what do you think the balance would look like at TNZ for instance?
Isn't that Dr. Who in his avatar? And they say all Asians look alike. Anyways, it was mentioned earlier in the thread, that there are only about 100 or so active members here at any given time. So I thought it'd be interesting to go through the members list and look at who, by post count, exactly is still here and an active participant. The ones in red are no longer with us, and a significant amount of time has elapsed for us to conclude that they are MIA. Here are my findings... Diacanu - yes Lt. Mewa - yes Muad Dib - yes Uncle Albert - yes Volone - yes garamet - yes Bull Doggystyle - yes oldfella1962 - yes marathon - hasn't posted in 1.5 years. Raoul the Redshirt - yes Jenee - yes Powaqqatsi - yes matthunter - not since the new year LizK - yes NAHTMMM - yes Robotech Master - yes Nautica - yes James Tiberius Kirk - last post was mid 2007 frontline - yes bryce - ragequit us Ryan - gone a year Startard - banned for being a retard. Good riddance. Alphaman - yes John - yes Captain J - yes JohnM - eaten by a lake whore. I actually did some stalking of his Imageshack account last year, and he's still alive, just not posting. JUSTLEE - gone for 3 years. brudder1967 - yes Jeff Cooper Disciple - gone for 2 years Beck - yes Stallion - yes ehrie - yes faisent - yes Midnight Funeral - yes So, out of the 100 most prolific posters, a full 20 of them have left the building. This doesn't include the guys who've quit us as new years resolutions, or are gone, but not yet missing long enough to include them on this list. So there actually is merit to the people who argue that Wordforge is bleeding members. 20 out of our 100 most active members are no longer here, and I think that is a pretty high number. I went and skimmed through posters 101-200, and it actually gets worse after this. Jeriko, Meka, Summerteeth, Spider, Dendronica, Shakes, Reno Floyd, Darwin, starkt, Guffbox, Herpetologist, Stewey, Jenna, Delaware, Eminence, KamelReds, Number 6, schmitty, Dead Peon, Leelana, are among the names that have not been posting for a long time. In their place, we've picked up, among most recent members, Chest Rockwell, sandbagger, Skrain Dukat, Bickendan, Lluminisa, Kor, and a few others withing the past year, but yeah, if 20% of your top posters are missing, I would consider that bleeding members. This is 20% since WF was founded, but still...are we replacing these people with other people who are posting as much or more than them?
^ It's also worth pointing out as well that of those who are still active, only a percentage of them are still frequent posters.
