No, I'm not wasting time with a "Teh Baba" option....just "Yes" or "No" and please post your reasons for your choice in the thread.
The obvious objective problem is, you are asking people who posts here religiously if they like posting here, in essence. I can't imagine what the results will be!
It is what it is, a place for us to gather and discuss events and subjects of interest. If I didn't like it and the people here I wouldn't be here.
Is this an ADMIN question? Personally, I like it fine. Lots of good dialogue and discussion, and more importantly, good company.
The question is if they are happy with WF, not if they like posting here and that isn't the same thing. What's the good and the bad? What needs to change?
Since the only options are "Yes" and "No," I chose "Yes." That should be rather obvious; if I wasn't, I would have left long ago. But there are many aspects of Wordforge with which I am not happy. In particular, I think it very unfortunate that a handful of posters are only interested in using vulgar insults and negreps to make fun of those with whom they disagree. I am aware that this is the inevitable implication of the freedom of expression which is what makes Wordforge interesting, but that still doesn't mean I have to like it. I am glad, however, that there are only a handful of such posters. A number of people like to classify "Wordforge" as being nothing but that, but a look at the list of active posters will show that a very solid majority do not engage in that kind of behavior. Nevertheless, that handful who do diminish the pleasure of Wordforge very greatly, for the rest of us.
Happy here? Yea, for the most part. Some of the childish crap gets annoying and there are posters who are skipped over here but I feel sure there are others who wear the other shoe and ignore me. Change? Don't know what to say to that other than I'd like my own smilie.
You don't think that maybe you and the boys don't go a bit overboard with the personal harassment of people you ideologically disagree with? Why can't you guys do more refuting with facts and debate and a bit less name calling and deeply stupid rep shenanigans?
They're gonna kill WF! WF is dying! We'll all have to go to TK where there is no one to talk to but Soma duals!
We need the naked booby room back. The only thing I don't like is when a thread devolves into two people flaming each other for 5 pages, but that's what's always happened on "lightly moderated" boards. Y'all should have seen the totally unmoderated Sci Fi Channel bboards when they first started up!
A. the mechanics of the board - I'm largely satisfied, I really am not tech-centric enough to know much about what could be better, although from time to time I see a feature elsewhere I think is neat (one I visit a lot has the ability to bookmark threads you want to refer back to) but I am fine on that B. administration - just right C. the posters - while i share Async's opinion that some behavior get's tiresome - and i'll add to what he said the growing tendency to dodge a well argued point rather than address it (i.e. replace the reply with a :durr: or something as if it's beneath being taken seriously) - but on the whole, it's the company I keep here that makes it worthwhile to be here. Those with whom i generally agree of course - often someone will make an argument for a point i know instinctively but can't articulate which helps clarify my thinking (Async and Palidin are champs at this) - but also, a thughtful rebuttal will not infrequently alter my thinking from my pre-disposed views. then there's the laughter, the fun-factor can be high. That makes it worth putting up with a few people who are pains in the ass. Frankly, my biggest complaint among the posting population is when i see a handful of posters who are quite capable of thoughtful, insightful, even sometimes mind-changing contributions, who settle for less than that by getting in pissing matches with the trolls, or by defaulting to DD&B as a standard response. The wasted potential for an actual informative discussion disappoints. But i guess that comes with the territory. EDIT to add: I should also say that, despite all the trolling - bad enough at one point I was willing to leave - on the whole, I've as many people I consider "true" friends here as i do "in real life," if not more. From the generosity shown, to the open arms regarding what would ave normally been the mother of all troll opportunities, it's difficult for me to imagine there's any other place I'd feel so at home.
To be honest I'd prefer it if thread titles didn't contain slurs. I won't lie and say that I don't mid them in individual posts either, but I don't won't any rule put into effect barring such language. I'd rather that people refrained of their own accord.
...however, I'll be back later to discuss this particular issue more. I find something interesting about all of this. Gotta get out and enjoy this beautiful weather immediately.
Yeah. It is good for some chuckles and the place is occasionally informative or insightful. For a board about 'nothing' it seems to be pretty active. I only wish there were more people or that less people had left over the years but I guess that can't be helped really. Any other conversations I want to have about other topics I can talk about elsewhere, and for real life stuff I use facebook. It has gotten pretty predictable as far what people here are gonna say about a particular topic. New blood would bring some new ideas or opinions into the mix, but I can't think of a good way to attract more people to site that doesn't really have a particular focus. People go to TrekBBS to talk about Trek and end up staying for the other discussions. Or if someone wants to talk sci-fi, comics, politics, whatever... there are message boards which specifically cater to those interests. We just kinda shoot the shit. And that isn't something most people are gonna be looking for during a Google search.
This is a place where, sometimes, I can find out information that I can't find elsewhere. Other times, I can just chill especially when I've had a rotten day at work and really don't want to burden my mother. However, there are times when I would really rather not listen to the inane childish "no you - no you" crap that exists here. And it would be nice if a thread devolved to that if the admin on line would give that lightly moderated "warning" or just close it. But that's me. And I would rather no see some of the cuss words - I mean, for pete's sake, just about everyone here is more than moderately educated - surely their vocabulary is larger than four-letter expletives! However this board was born because TNZ suddenly became sanitized to the point of ridiculousness, so I will put up with it. BECAUSE folks here, with few exceptions, do more than just cuss and fart and behave obnoxiously.
Tamar are you genuinely interested in what people think or this simply a way for you as an administrator to take shots like the above at people?
I suppose I should add, Wordforge pretty much raised me, along with my parents. Every time I've followed your suggestions given in the Blue Room, things have turned out ok.
If I want to "take shots" at someone...I do so...and you know it. I don't need "cover". You're just sensitive because you know that you are one of the ones who has a tendency to do more to inflame situations than participate in discussions in a productive way. I ask because I am very interested and I was not "taking shots" at Sokar...I like him very much in fact and when he's serious about a topic he can be very passionate and interesting and it would be nice to just see a little bit more of that side of his personality, too. You, yourself can have some excellent things to say but you prefer to focus on vendettas and revenge which is disappointing to say the least.
In my opinion if you were seriously interested in what people think you wouldn't have made the smart ass comment.
Not a problem. But, I'm not sure how has anything to do with the comments I made to Tamar. Here is the funny thing, it seems people like Tamar are interested in pointing fingers at people they believe are "hurting" WF. Yet she as well as others seem to fail to consider their actions at WF.
